He cites users' ability to mute & block folks as a positive, which is good. It's also why right wing chuds thankfully can't get a foothold here - b/c they violate community norms & get nuclear blocked out of normal people's timelines. Bluesky isn't a *liberal* bubble - it's a *decency* bubble.

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

(All jokes aside, I think that's the best description of the community most of us craved after the Bad Place became the fucking Worst Place. Somewhere we can all be weird little freaks (complimentary) who also happen to promote the radical idea that empathy is good and necessary for flourishing.)

🤔 If the right-wing chuds are allowed to invade #Bluesky, we will just leave for pastures new. We've done it once (from twitter) we can do it again, or folk can just leave social media altogether. Social media is merely a "nice to have", it's not essential. The tech-bros need to remember that...

I sincerely hope that @toni.bsky.team won't deceive himself into thinking that right wingers from X have the capacity to engage with civility as he envisions. Their lack of presence here is because they've been unable to weaponize Bluesky for harassment. That's a huge plus for the site.

I miss old IRC server scripts where instead of blocking people you turned everything they posted into animal sounds like frog ribbits until they gave up and left.

That’s exactly it. I left twitter because gun rights extremists started attacking me personally. Not just my organization, but me. And mine is only one of a million stories like that. If that happens to me on Bluesky I am out of here too. It is literally a safety issue.

Also - in context, this sounds fine! He’s talking about more sports, not more right wingers, lol. Looks like the Verge baited us here. Sorry for taking the bait! bsky.app/profile/scoi...

Good lord I wish some of you could read on this text based social media website.

It is also partially on Toni to have the media training to recognize when the premise of a question is not winnable. You can answer while redirecting. "We like our current users and think there is room for groups with different interests," versus, "yes, we have a user base problem but..."

Bluesky's algos reflect how real life works much better than any other social media platform. In real life, in functional communities, antisocial people are marginalized.

Well it "attracts" one group of people because Bluesky is nice ,& we get a little truth ,& some lovely kind things & that's what we like FFS! WE DON'T WANT TO BE LIKE X !!!!! NEVER BLOODY EVER!!!!!

Nuclear block works both ways, though. Bad actors can use it to hide criticism. So it's not quite enough on its own.
