There's a "Why do we need this?" question here and Apple's video doesn't answer it. You need to think you want it if you're going to buy it. And even if you already had a HomeView set up, I'm not sure how often you'd use it instead of your phone or just talking to it like a screenless HomePod.

I think a home view might work nice on my counter. My bigger question is will the apps I use run on it or will they have to be “wigitized” to run/look proper.

For years we’ve had an older model iPad in the kitchen mounted on an articulated arm and close to a wall usb outlet for charging. Music can be played to stereo-paired HomePods. The Home app provides access to several devices.

Why we need this is only one question. How we ever get it, that is the other one. Apple serves like 5% of all countries, thanks to a Siri AI which is not available in 99% of all languages. Not talking about Europe, more whole Asia. This will sold less than a Vision Pro.

I’m mystified as to how people are mystified by this. People with new homes want a screen to answer video doorbells, set the temperature, change lighting scenes, etc and they want one that integrates with Apple. That’s this.

When I look around my house for where I might put such a device, the only spot is where our Aura Frame currently sits. If it did the same thing as the Aura Frame (displayed a random sequence of old family photos), but also had Home app style controls, maybe that would be interesting.

FaceTime! We love to talk to our parents while making dinner or wrangling the toddler. Doing it with a phone (or even an iPad on a stand) is more cumbersome.

Apple Home Security by ADT, a nice stream of recurring revenue featuring custom install, two to three HomeView and Apple Home accessories by LG and others. Coming to an Apple One subscription near you. Maybe. Some day.

My fam does have a HomePod Mini on our Island and we listen to music on it while eating. The plug is on side of island, and we just run cable along the back. Even with “improved Siri”, I do want a screen though just to be able to play the music I actually want. Even new Siri isn’t accurate enough.

A relatively recent building code change in the US *requires* that any island outlets be on the top, to prevent children from yanking on cords and pulling Kitchenaid mixers onto their heads.

Not that, uh, they depict outlets on the counter. The prizing strategy for the home products is *bizarre*. Why isn’t a mount included in the price of the standalone version? Why does an Apple TV cost the same as one of these things?
