the sheer amount of gamers genuinely believe the massive layoffs over the last few years are very cool and justified and karmic revenge on western AAA devs for making slop is crazy dude. this is simply not an audience worth sacrificing so much of yourself to please

Noticed this uptick on YouTube recently. Seems calculated because this culture war shit was not the immediate reaction

Noticing a sharp increase in astroturfed video game news coverage on Asha Sharma’s role. The talking point is she’s, “cutting the mismanagement in dev studios because everyone is making decisions through 18 layers of managers”. Fucking really? MS has fired thousands of people. Who’s buying this?

That + bots 💯 The uptick has been insane since the weekend. YT and IG are the *worst*. I literally called someone out on their BS and lack of basic knowledge on some of the teams. Got a ♥️ by someone else that was also calling the dude out, but silence from OP. Did the truth hurt?? 😂☠️

The toxic bro culture in video gaming has to go. It's been around since the 80s with competitive jerks sitting at arcades & trying to prove how 'manly' they were by getting high scores on Galaxia. Today, it's 1st POV PvP 'kill counts'. So friggin' stupid & spotlights the fragility of dudes today.

i met someone on this site who said they think the gaming industry should be more like the music industry bc oh individual artists get respect and that game development shouldn't be a real career gamers are not worth spending your life to please

It's a completely perverse incentive for the teams. Why would you ever deliver a product when you know you're going to be fired the next day? Why care about anything when nothing you can do can save you?

The crazy thing is that they are still so passionate that great AAA games do still get made, despite what you described from the top, and also despite the fact that a bunch of pieces of shit online will be sending them death threats over even the smallest perceived slight.

They're so delusional, they legit believe these layoffs mean better games are going to be made because anyone who got fired was a "bad dev" and now there's room for "good devs" to step in.

there is a lot of support too yeah and i would assume the majority of the audience are mostly normal guys whose response would be to hear about this and go wait man what? that sucks. but this kinda guy is still unfortunately a loud vocal minority and enough of a presence to depress me

Gamers really just live in a completely different reality. Grown-ass adults who effectively believe that video games come from a stork and will send death threats to anyone attempting to convince them otherwise.

Wild to consider that maybe the Gamers are so vile and toxic that they'll kill the entire industry they claim to love and care about, just to, I dunno, get revenge? Own the libs? So wildly irrational

combined with the perhaps slightly better intentioned but equally enraging people who think that this means that AAA devs can just go indie now

I dont interact with gaming much here. This is mostly for news/politics. Which is good cause these people sound stupid as fuck and id definitely bully them abt it

Public figures (at both independent and more mainstream games journalists) that pitch it as a fix all for the industry piss me off the most. This shit is your job, please learn anything about how funding works within the industry you report on good lord…

True Indie games are nice But also: if some guy is successful, maybe he makes some millions, but he is the only one making money; most indie don't make any money, and when they do, it's less than minimum wage

I believe the biggest factor that led to attitudes like this is the free to play model. A whole generation of gamers now have a sense of entitlement that they deserve top notch experiences with no investment from them up front. They scoff at the thought of devs making a living for their hard work.

did you get recommended the video of the guy who's like "well asha xbox firing a bunch of Bethesda and giving Fallout to obsidian is simply the common sense call obviously those guys sucked at their jobs"

Sounds like pure delusion and apathy torwards people loosing their livelyhoods.Neither of these teams currently have the capacity to produce anything that wont be infested with all the same problems as the last couple of games.

yeah the guy was very pointedly "obviously it sucks on a human level that people lost their jobs but it can't *always* be managements fault right?" and I'm just like lol wrong yes it can
