"I wish more people got involved in the software they use" (all four fingers of the monkeys paw curl in at once leaving the middle finger extended)

(to be clear, I'm not endorsing "being an asshole in the github issues" -- that's what the discussions are for (/s) -- but I am sayin', when "a bunch of regressions in a widely used backup tool" coincides with "introduction of a lot of Claude commits" I understand the visceral sysadmin rage.)

Also seems like the main problem is not the use of AI, but admitting it? «Now that I know AI is involved with updates it has to go through a bunch of scrutiny because it’s considered an “AI tool” by policy.»

the main problem is that they pushed a bunch of regressions in software that's historically been, like, asleep with the occasional sec patch here and there. people use rsync for backups, and have for.. decades. fork it and move on, but being surprised by backlash to breaking things is disingenuous

He pushed a rewrite of the *test suite*. This not the root cause of the regression. rsync had multiple regressions, including severe CVEs, fairly regularly well before Claude Code was a thing. I don’t get where did you hallucinate it being the bastion of stability from.
