Not just public places, but homes. Even if nobody in your house smoked, if a visitor did smoke they were fully accommodated! Wild. Even as an ex-smoker I cant fuckin abide it. Go outside and close the door behind you, and dont even think about sitting next to me afterwards!

It happened on a generational divide. Young smokers just started going outside to smoke. Don't know if it was carryover from smoking being disallowed in restaurants and workplaces.

And around the time they started going outside to smoke, people in my area also started asking if they should take their shoes off indoors. Maybe everyone realized that it’s the nice thing to do to respect other people’s homes.
