Just very puzzling that there are people out there insisting that the charts are right and that nothing any individual is experiencing actually matters and then being surprised when they're told to go piss up a rope

I had a guy on a survey today say he isn't affected by cost of living because he's retired and somehow this means that if prices go up so does his income, and people complaining about affordability are stupid. Because everyone has stock and numbers always go up, I assume.

You want to call people morons for not believing the "data" saying the economy is doing fine, that's your prerogative. But a line graph showing median income across a nation of 330 million is not going to convince someone that things are getting better for them or their neighbors when they aren't

We're about to be hit with a one two punch of whatever the fuck the fallout of Iran continues to be combined with the two big AI companies failing to go public once they show their real books. Both will immediately collapse afterwards and take a good chunk of private equity with them. Summer fun!

Dude just burned down a 2M sqft warehouse in Cali cause of his experience, so yeah, the terminally online-conomists might wanna touch grass once in a lifetime. The friction that these cycles of inflation have been causing at inland empire level of economy is wholly not appreciated by the charts.

My hypothesis: if one has a take they believe is backed up by data, and then they're yelled at online by almost everyone (each having anecdotal evidence that contradicts the data), that person will wrap themselves in the data, assume the pile on is manufactured, and end up radicalized In some way.
