Keighley's disinterest in excluding AI trailers really devalues the whole thing. These events are rarely to my taste, but the experience of watching "ONL" was one of watching slop. Even non-AI games are tainted by the association — we have to second-guess, every time.

Gamescom AI Slop Thread. Every game from the Gamescom Opening Ceremonies that was actually AI Slop so you don't have to care about it.

The paranoid environment that this stuff cultivates around stuff that would otherwise be enjoyable is just sad.

I value trailers way less than I used to. Show me someone playing the game, not some AI slop. (On that note, props to Warlock for showing gameplay as early/rough as it was).

That demo WAS played live. Bungie just realized way too late that it just wouldn't work on a retail Xbox. It wasn't intentionally deceitful. Halo 2 was just horribly mismanaged.

e3 and other expos had their place in the game media ecosystem. they were a giant pain in everyones ass, but when a company showed their products, THEY had to go on stage. with these unwatchable keighly festivals, you just pay a guy everyone hates to stream your youtube video and take all the heat

I reacted live to this and saw a ton of AI garbage and I held my tongue. It was horrible seeing real actual effort held up on the same pedestal as AI garbage.

And by "abivalent" I really mean conflicted. I see this a good way for small teams to get more consistency in their programming. Which DOES help speed up developing and relieve them of "busy work" they can then spend in designing actualy gameplay. However, the industry IS in danger.

New grads have NO way to gain hands on xp in deving short of actual dev work. Which is HARD to step into as someone who never did that prior. There will be a shortage of good developers in the future because young people can't get a foothold in the field. IMHO this is a regulation issue :(

Ofc, for actual design, genAI should not be used at all. Games are one of the purest forms of human expression. AI, by definition, can't help with that. Games designed by AI clearly show that.

Good to know what NOT to watch. I didn't know this was happening, got half interested to throw it on while cooking, then saw this post. Why would I even bother watching if I can tune into any AI slop channel now and get the same treatment?

This bums me out more then the usual news about AI slop games as I’ve maintained a defense of Geoff Keighley for years. He has his faults but I always believed he wants the best for the video game medium. However letting in all these slop trailers really hurts my faith in him and what he’ll present.

A lot of the responses are "screw this, only indie games for me!" But a lot of these studios ARE indie, inasmuch as thst word means anything. There's no safe niche to hide from this trash. It's infuriating.

Yes the way we use the word indie in the daily context has largely lost all meaning. The historical context for it has changed so much that it's mostly a vibe things these days. Many indie studios also opt to operate in the same way and make the same things that AAA studios do, just with less money

its bad enough that every game in Unreal looks the fucking same, now they're all using AI to replicate some kind of future-punk aesthetic. you could have taken many of the trailers stacked end to end and idk if id have noticed they werent the same game
