This morning, the D&D team and Magic's Studio X informed our leadership of our intent to unionize. We love the games we make and the work we do, and unionizing is how we protect that work. unitedwizardsofthecoast.com/news/dnd-stu...
I'm not sure how often I'll be back in my browser, but I'll be trying to stick to blogging on fireye.coffee going forward. My huginn CI flow should post new blog posts here as they come. Watching the video: Oh nice! Moldrise, a Godot game! Oh nice! Pathogenic, another Godot game! Oh nice! Pathogenic is being compared to Slay the Spire 2, another Godot game! Is this what world domination looks like?
Some games use infection as an aesthetic. Others use it as a strategy. youtu.be/LWz7u1sf67U

In recent years, the media has quietly begun to change the way in which it writes about Bobby Kotick, the former CEO of Activision Blizzard. PMG investigates how Kotick used the threat of defamation to reshape his legacy in the games business, one article at a time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKwp...

This is the most templeOS piece of software i've seen in a while. It's not open source as far as I'm aware, but the design is frankly too genius, delightful, and whimsical not to share. This is the best case i've seen for software as an art form in many moons. septabee.nekoweb.org
This was exactly my mindset when I wrote I hate fun games fireye.coffee/blog/i-hate-...
Hit my late 30s & now if I think about playing video games it triggers a disgust response. Don't think this is a universal feeling nor do I think it is a medium without merit. But I'm paralyzed by the thought of how much time I spent on them when I could have been doing something more constructive.
I am incredibly proud and happy to see #niri take up a prohibitive LLM policy. I'll finish that hot corner pr soon I swear (this operating systems class is kicking my ass) github.com/niri-wm/niri...
If you can afford it, consider paying for free software!
Godot contributors and Godot Foundation people are really good people, ya’ll. There’s so much goodwill and best effort action, many of their efforts unpaid, under-appreciated, and invisible. Please continue to send them kindness. And donate a bit of what you can spare. fund.godotengine.org
Beautiful little technical post here. Thanks!
From the outside, rendering optimization can look a little bit like black magic. That's why @clayjohn.bsky.social, lead maintainer of the rendering team, is here to show a few examples of some optimizations from this year to highlight that optimizing rendering code isn’t as scary as it sounds.

Watching @itsquinns.bsky.social on adventuring academy and I'm having to pop open a new tab every few minutes so I can do all the assigned reading. Genuinely a pleasure.

I don't care if DLSS5 looks "better" or not. It is ethically unconscionable, sets dangerous precedent, will end up homogenizing art direction in games if broadly adopted, and not to mention raise already sky-high performance, and thus cost, barriers.
Getting out of the weeds real quick on #DLSS5, all else aside, I'm kinda concerned about the idea of letting nvidia dictate what ends up on people's displays. Even putting aside any nefarious applications therein, the dataset bias alone has a very real capacity to shape societal perception.

Daniel is sharing his starter pack of game devs that don't use AI, so I figured rather than just repost it, I would quote post it with my three no AI game dev starter packs. go.bsky.app/6DRdowf go.bsky.app/AS5R4p7 go.bsky.app/7K7JDCJ
Creating this no-ai indie games starter pack is one of the best things I ever did on BlueSky. Lots of great developers in here, making things with their own hands, some of whom I might not have found otherwise!! go.bsky.app/78u8M6Y
