In college, I read a magazine article titled “‘Happy Trails, Hans’: Roy Rogers as the New Heroic Ideal.” It really stuck with me. Over the years, when suggesting to people that they should watch Die Hard, I tend to focus on how it changed the action genre and specifically the action-hero archetype.

This is a BIG piece of the book, yeah - specifically in contrast to the Rambo, Dirty Harry, and Schwarzenegger movies it competed against (and beat) that summer

There’s an utterly delightful pic of me under the Christmas tree in 3rd grade in a brand new pink lacy outfit from Mervyn’s with the tags hanging off, holding the only thing I really wanted: my VHS copy of Die Hard. I loved the Mad Max: Fury Road book, I imagine I’ll love this, and will pre-order!

Betsy! You didn’t show him the best picture. This is Betsy’s cameo as Santa in the production of “A Very Die Hard Christmas” at the Bryant-Lake Bowl in Minneapolis in Dec 2013.
