* watches Hexed trailer * Wow. Old Disney is dead. DEAD dead. Dead, buried, concreted over and with an AI data center built on top of it.

Disney died when they stopped allowing the creation of traditional animated films (and series) like Treasure Planet, Lilo & Stitch, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Emperor's New Groove that actually HAD great characters, stories, writers, artists and creators behind them.

It made me mad about them canceling The Owl House all over again. Hexed looks, sounds and feels bland. Makes me wonder why The Owl House didn't "fit the brand" and this slop does. If not ai then definitely sanitized corpo slop. Don't even think we'll see another "first gay character."

It's been dead for quite a few years now. Anything passing for any sign of life and innovation was a metaphorical rigor mortis.

Let me guess. The main character is a quirky teenager that doesn't quite fit in with the crowd and makes quips or goes "No way, did that just happen?" Every 45 seconds. And is the centerpiece of characters that are as developed as a 4 sentence bios.

Thats the narrative theyre pushing, but actually 3 cartoons were released in 1928 with different designs for mickey that were made public domain in 2025. And now in 2026, theres 8 more cartoons with designs for mickey more like the familiar one, all public domain cartoons. More will come each year.

The modern design first appeared in 1940, meaning it would enter the public domain in 12 years. And every year that passes it becomes harder for them to argue they own the look, he was pretty close in the 30s.

Thats what equity in law would seem to suggest, but sadly we know that ultimately, law doesn't apply the same way for the rich. They already extended the copyright for 25 years, they'll find a way to do it again. I would be very happy to be wrong in 12 years, but don't have much hope about it...
