The essence of Trumpism is inventing an imagined world in which everything is worse.

Exactly. Anything negative is always someone else's fault. Anything they want credit for is because of them. They're always aggrieved and always the victim. They search for narratives to cast themselves as victims no matter how absurd and when that stops working they move onto the next.

These psychos have tapped into something I find absolutely mindboggling. You can get enough people to believe anything you want, absent logic, proof, or common sense, by just telling them what they want to hear.

It's a learned abusive behavior. I do believe this could be mitigated if more confronted them on their repeated bad behavior and spoke about this as a behavior. We focus more on the specific lie and less on confronting and naming their bad faith behavior. They're allowed to lie.
