asking my friends why they still post on and share posts from the child porn website, and they just say “my favorite vtubers are still on there”

I miss Twitter. X is not Twitter. X is, as you stated, a far right right propaganda machine owned by a ketamine addled billionaire intent on destroying the world. I dunno if people keep posting there out of habit or nostalgia, but I agree we should not be making free content for that site anymore.

only once you fully leave Twitter do you come to realize how much of your mindshare is taken up by psychic vampires and assorted bad faith engagement trolls like Glenn Greenwald who have everybody pointlessly chasing their ass

Against my better judgment I jumped into a Facebook thread responding to a post claiming “fearing Muslim takeover…isn’t hate, it’s common sense.” My reply, the Constitution protects freedom of religion for everyone. Just checked, 326 hateful replies. What was I thinking? 🙄

especially if you are a journalist that doesn't have to be there to cover the company (of which there's like three that do so with any usefulness)

The entire website was unusable the second he killed the trust and safety team resulting in the comment sections being full of bots. And more so when he later started pushing neonazis into your feed, and there are so many you could block thousands and there would still be more.

The bot problem might have actually been way worse on the Japanese side of twitter, it was like 99% bots, copy pasting other comments, random foreign language unrelated replies. And guess what, it still recommended neonazis to random Japanese people who don't speak english.

I genuinely feel like leaving cut out like 75% of my exposure to mental pollution by bad faith assholes of all flavors

I tell you what, Musk threatening violence in my country and trying to influence our politics made the decision to leave a lot easier. Wish our actual government and leadership were on the same page, but alas

My algorithm on X became increasingly violent and I felt a radicalization towards violence so I let go and smile more now.
