Here is an idea for theUS car makers: start making affordable, modern EV's that correspond to consummer wishes and needs and maybe you wouldn't be so frightened by a little competition - there will still be a demand for your Massive gas guzzling monstrosities , they're just not for everyone

Performative protectionist bullsh!t to save failing US corporations done at the expense of the American consumer. And why are they failing? Because they're run by finance people instead of car people. Stock buybacks instead of innovation and we're going to pay for it. Yes, yes I'm angry... 1/

And this is prolog to the bailouts of frontier AI model companies when openweight models, many coming from China, crush their exorbitant evaluations. There will be a Fed rescue plan for these companies and the real estate grifters building out unneeded data centers

"Protect Consumer Privacy" my ass. Protect corporations putting out inferior products at outrageous prices is more like it. If BYD is allowed in U.S., it would kill U.S. automakers. That is the sole reason. It has nothing to do with the people.

So it's xEnOpHoBiA if the US protects one of its vital industries, but it's "smart planning" when the Chinese REQUIRED foreign car brands to partner with a local Chinese car maker if they wanted to sell their products in China. Funny how that is.

American automakers are scared. They know that if EVs with good range, creature comforts, excellent crash test results, and an affordable price are allowed to be sold in the US, they may as well declare bankruptcy now.

For decades we’ve been told that Facebook and Google stealing our information was no big deal. But now we’re supposed to be afraid of our information being shared because it protects us from ::::checks notes::::: affordable cars. F-them and bring in the cheap EVs.

Retired from the US auto industry after 30 years in January. Detroit has a 60 year habit of understanding the war, making the right moves to win the war, then when the first battle is lost throwing up the white flag and incinerating any possibility of future competitiveness. That is happening now.

Worried about a foreign country gathering data from our cars, but not so much about domestic companies or the govt gathering data about us via our cars from traffic cameras.

The Auto Giants can FLOCK off over their privacy bullshit. Geely Global is already here. They are part owners of Volvo, Lotus and Polestar. They are a shareholder in Mercedes Benz. In July 2026, Geely and Ford announced to establish a manufacturing joint venture at Ford's Valencia plant in Spain.

As IRS shares our info with DHS, the gov’s commitment to privacy is a joke. It’s not about that. Ford’s CEO said American car makers can’t compete with those Chinese EVs. They’re locking us into more expensive ICE cars to preserve the domestic car and oil industries. Free market BS.

I wouldn't buy a car made by slave labor, or subsidized by a totalitarian govt below cost. Nor would i go on social media and cheerlead for car companies that rely on subsidies from totalitarian govts and also replace slave labor with robots instead of paying them a living wage. But that's me .

Why innovate or meet the market when you can lobby to keep the same crap over and over again and dress this up all as “privacy,” or “national security.”

Hmm auto giants do bit Waymo doesn’t. Pretty messed up it’s ok for Waymo/Google to buy Chinese but not us the consumer. This is in Florida too with out of state plates. Just another way to avoid paying more taxes on Florida roads.

to protect WHAT ? to protect WHO ? to protect the CITIZENS ? Want to protect National Security ? Want to Get rid of Americas biggest NATIONAL SECURITY BREACH Since the 1930s HOW ? Remove TRUMP and his Administration

A modest proposal - Ford & GM should switch to making shovels, horse buggies, kerosene lanterns, buggywhips, etc. That way they can keep doing the same thing forever, with no need to change or adapt. The Amish, Mennonites, Hutterites, historical re-enactors are a steady market for sales.

China car companies should have to buy their American data from American, Korean, Japanese, and German car and electronics companies like god intended.

USA Corporations ship your job to China. Enabling Chinese workers to have disposable income. The Socialist(Formerly Communist) Gov helps industry to produce affordable electric autos. The Chinese Workers buy. USA Corps .the top 10%, took your job, now legally forcing you to buy unaffordable autos.

Remember when Japanese cars were vandalized in America? When their engineering was what drove innovation and quality? Take note. Easy to demonize Chinese. Take a look at what their technology and efficiency could do to push the U.S. to actually compete w/ EVs. Right now it’s fuel lobbyist crap.

What happened to free market economics? Isn't that the whole principle of Capitalism? Doesn't the market decide who succeeds and who fails based on the quality of the products and services on offer? Or is that just a lie told to keep the money with the rich? Protectionism is what Communists did.

The New America , protection for Oligarchs and Lobbyists. Just use race, national security, privacy. Whatever you need to use, yse it. Dress it up as Patriotism and the Flag. Greatest cars bla , bla.. No high new tech for America....sorry. Build that wall remember... America First...no hot cars.....

The fact that any American anywhere thinks they have some sort of “privacy” thing going on is f’ing laughable. Big tech and the government knows every single thing there is to know about you. They know when you’ll take your next shit FFS. “Privacy” my ass.

If the regime was all for protecting consumer privacy in general, I might believe this, but as things stand, nope! I’ll believe in the tooth fairy before I believe in this.

The "Best country on Earth" can't have the "The best Electric Cars" on the planet. It might burst the president bubble of that "Hottest Country " . Would it be a lie?? Other countries can have the Hot Cars ! Why not the USA ? Are we too fragile?? Need to rig the game of this free market again ??
