While this website is absolutely busted and run by people who actively hate their userbase, this level of dunking on the mods also proves that it 100% has the juice. Thank you for making this place better, Karl!

The totally unhinged thing is this wouldn't even be a dunk, and would mean nothing if he hadn't detached his post. Like this, is the Looney Tunes coyote running into the painting that he himself painted on the side of a mountain. Unforced error. A fumble. I didn't even have to work for this!

I said this jokingly at first, but every day it becomes more obvious that Bluesky leadership consists of people who do not understand how social media works. Not one of them has the spirit of a poster, and that is unfathomable to me! Why did they make this site when they could do anything else???

Oh 100%. They are constantly relearning the first principles of how to manage and moderate a social platform on the internet, lessons which mailing lists & BBSes and forums learned a quarter century or more ago. They should've poached forum mods with equity offers & shortcut so much hassle.

Why do they talk just like those obnoxious techbro guys who said nfts would be revolutionary and be a new better currency and give you immortality Oh, wait

Many AI applications are kinda neat actually, the issue simply is that they take up astronomical amounts of ressources for what boils down to being stupid gimmiks. Its billions of dollars and the energy output of a country for a product that will be slightly entertaining for an hour or two.

And that's made further unacceptable by the fact that there's research showing that the current implementations they're spending all that energy on aren't the best approach. They'd be better off working at it more like a research problem & getting actually dynamic, efficient implementations.

Right now, they're basically building gigantic Instagram filters, when it needs to be something much more dynamic, run on hardware that's much more efficient/suitable for the purpose, and modeling things more than just language, like the underlying logical systems language proxies.

There was someone at the time who was contrarian defending pool phone dunking as being logical/reasonable way to cool a phone*, and they hated when people dunked on others for any reason. (*as opposed to not using your phone for a while for it to cool down.)

The clever way to implement it would not be actually putting anything else back on the protocol. You simply log posts from their accounts, pulling from the api firehose, then log that directly to another website for archival. They basically have no way to stop it; it's how they designed atProto.
