Like one old tech bro says in YouTube "AI is the new spam. No one likes spam. Just junk taking up space in your email". I agree. Just trash and takes up space. Also burns off energy and waste precious water to cool off the systems.

it's not like second life selling assets was a gold mine 20 years ago. Even then, they tried to act like it was, and even at the PEAK of TF2 building skins, it took a level of skill set to actually make something, and everyone else played on the server with stolen assets mario kart!

If that were true then why the big push for more data centers? It’s not just to take all the water rights away from the people. It’s apps like this one and YouTube, Meta, Twitch that are requiring more data space to fulfill the need for all the (non-AI 😂) users.

Kotaku nailed the core problem. But there's a second-order cost nobody's talking about: This isn't just "AI slop didn't sell" (correct). It's "platforms keep pushing AI anyway because the cost of that choice lands on emerging-market developers, not on capital."

CGTrader's competitive advantage was a 22-year-old in Bangalore with exceptional rigging skills. Responsive. Culturally aware. $20/hr for specialized work, not cheap labor. AI floods the market with "good enough." Buyers lower expectations. The specialist loses the ability to charge for judgment...

The 1% sales rate? That's actually the market saying "we don't want this." But Tencent deal says "we build it anyway because growth metrics > labor outcomes."

The path isn't "better AI." It's: own the tier that actually matters—specialized, responsive, judgment-heavy work. But platforms need to stop pretending generic+fast is innovation. It's a race to the bottom, and emerging developers hit first. #labour

Turns out the "infinite content" dream is actually just a digital landfill. We’ve successfully automated the production of things nobody wants. Efficiency is a nightmare when you're optimizing for zero demand.

How they didn't see this coming is beyond me. when AI dudes see something they like made with AI, they don't ask to buy it, they ask "what was the prompt you used?" so they can make it themselves. It has "I don't want to pay for that" baked in to the culture of consumers.

I'm a dev and I don't use Ai but if I did why would I pay for someone else's gen Ai rather then just putting in some prompts myself and making my own for free. Do they think no one else can put in prompts?? That's what makes the whole Ai thing fucking dumb

the prompters have been trying like hell to convince everyone (themselves) included, that prompting is some sort of arcane art, something you can be “left behind on” if you don’t start practicing now! It’s google fu. It’s just google fu. if you can get good google results you can write a prompt.

Well the fact that it makes no financial sense which was the reason it was created would probably be more important to avoid AI thats build on work even if they got references it draws from the right way. Because even that would be unethical...

Exactly. Its like a bunch of thieves decided that they were somehow entitled to every single idea on the planet - and then went ahead, stole them all, and now want to sell them to you for $34 a month.

These people forgot that Roy Batty and the rest of the clones died in the end, killed by a man that wasn't sure if he was even a human. There was some weird interlude where a real man walked through a desert, but the rest of it made man seem less than human.

I love that on every website that now offers an AI chatbot, there's a little disclaimer under that simply says the information provided may be incorrect. I mean what's the fucking point then

there's no point, even aside from being terrible, why would someone who would resort to ai models bother paying for them when they could just generate it themselves?

I need them to understand that we are perfectly capable of pirating stuff and the main reason anyone even bothers to buy anything at all is that we want to support the people who created something beautiful. Even if I ever had interest in something created by AI, why would I *buy* it?

I think AI companies went into this gambit under a “built it and they will come” fallacy. What they failed to understand is by creating a lie machine, whatever it creates is a falsehood with no bearing on anything or anyone that no one built, therefore no one will come.

The issue is that unlike the 2000 Internet bubble, these companies have real value & generate real incomes. We also have vastly most concentrated wealth behind them. So until those really wealthy entities have somewhere better to put their extreme wealth, the rest of us are along for the ride. (1/x)

(2)...When that does happen though it will happen very quickly. Look for other "low risk" assets to suddenly become popular. Once they have their trades in position It'll be like a lightning bolt struck the economy. Their hand might be forced by too many poor earnings reports.

(3) However, judging by Tesla's Wiley E Coyote levitation act followed by SpaceX doing the SAME thing, do not underestimate the ability for this to go on for a long time & the rot to get worse. I think it will take an exogenous shock (extreme El Niño/oil price inflation) to finally put paid to this.

(4) The simple fact is that the real economy is suffering & the triple whammy of extreme weather, input costs, US tariffs could cause a real downturn especially when combined with massive inflation caused by oil $ & the erosion of the real economy. Investment capital is now untethered from reality.

This, from the article, is my guess as well: "My gut also tells me that, if the end product is just a few prompts away, why would anyone buy something you didn’t actually make." Why buy low effort slop when you can create something yourself, tailored to your own creative vision, instead?

Right. Like, if you wanted something AI, you could prompt it yourself. In fact, that's really the only use of AI - making something so tailored to a person or moment. If I wanted to make something for someone else, I'd hire out actual expertise or do it myself!

companies NEED this to work, because they can finally accomplish their wet dream of having all the labor and not having to pay benefits to its workers AIBros NEED this to work, because the finally feel they can accomplish something in their lives without lifting a finger and having to work for it

yep i will never ever pay for anything ai. the sooner this shit bubble pops the better. and not a dime to bail out any of the billionaires trying to force ai everywhere.

Yet apparently Gemini has 1 billion users? I ain’t trying to defend AI, but it really feels like a subset of the anti-AI side just is desperately trying to will a bubble into existence and will AI out of existence. I’m afraid hopes and dreams work as well as thoughts and prayers.
