I'm old enough to remember when pardons were announced as "that was really nice of the president to pardon those ppl but that one guy, maybe he shouldn't have gotten one" as opposed to "holy shit, this is Hitler meets Putin levels of corruption" pardons.

Actions taken in DC by federal officials such as Miller’s request to ICE to execute protesting American citizens can and should be prosecuted by the states. Though they may need to collaborate to pool resources and their national guards as they do for disaster support. @dems.ag @raskin.house.gov

Trump and SCOTUS justices can ask anyone to murder anyone as an official act including those who threaten them with impeachment, and then pardon the thugs they enable. The constitution allows this. So clearly that’s a problem that invalidates the constitution. lol @dems.ag @raskin.house.gov

I know this is groundbreaking thought here and not applicable to these assholes, but maybe just be a decent human and don’t do the pardon-requiring bad shit in the first place. Good god.

I've still got $20 that Trump will pardon himself. He's broken every political norm and a lot of laws and has shown he'll say and do anything to protect his own corrupt criminal ass, so why not?

How do we prosecute the overt crimes of corruption and civil and human rights violations of this administration while revitalizing the economy, education, science, healthcare, energy policy and global alliances, and avoiding a political DoJ.

Curtailing pardon power is the one thing that would make all of Trump's minions behave. They've been willing to do just about anything, because they'll get a free pass. I'm sure this isn't what the founders had in mind.

Part of me thinks that Trump will leave a lot of people hanging out to dry when he leaves. It’s what he did at the end of his first term. He may decide that pardoning all his co-conspirators will free the next DoJ to focus on him.

Congress must enact a law that presidential pardons, made as part of a criminal activity, are null and void unless approved by two-thirds majority in Congress.

Pathetic. MAGA elects a shitload of crooks who do nothing for anyone except wealthy people, rake in a shitload of money for themselves & then cover their asses with pardons for all the crimes they have committed. We need a whole new type of criminal law created to get this fixed.

Go ahead, that means they loose their 5th amendment rights on any matter covered by the pardon and are compelled to testify against their co-conspirators

It is pure Machiavellian behaviour America needs to hang its head in shame for allowing this dictatorial, undemocratic behaviour to go unchecked for so long.

This is the most disgusting abuse of political authority … it is effectively giving staff - at all levels - permission to commit illegal activity knowing they will be pathetically pardoned when … not if, but when … they are charged and found guilty of crimes.

The pardon powers is out of control. Do the crime and do no time. Never should be allowed. Congress has many new laws to adopt after this crime spree. If they don’t we are doomed to fail.

Do they realize how this exposes their donor class? The people outside the WH, who are getting kickbacks and pardons, and paying bribes, can and will be prosecuted. The WH staff can be forced to testify against them, and can’t claim 5th amendment rights if they’ve received a pardon.

The shitshow this pardon power has turned into in such a few short years is insane fuckery. I remember when governors and presidents would be embarrassed if they pardoned someone in their inner-circle or someone who never repented. Today? A mere $5M will get your lawyers an audition.

Yes. The idea of pardoning innocent people is just stupid and un-necessary. However the pardons before the fact are being used in this case to encourage persons working for this president to commit crimes on his behalf. He used pardons for the insurrectionists in prison as a reward.

There really isn’t a good reason to honor those pardons, though. The pardon power has been corrupted and a country that only exists because it stole itself from its owners should probably pull its head out of its ass regarding slavish adherence to process.

No one used the word “sell” until you. He pardoned lots of ppl before leaving office, including his son. Go google it, if you didn’t know this. I thought it was pretty common knowledge. By your own logic, then, Hunter and many others are guilty of crimes. Correct? Or did you misspeak?

Trump’s pardon power is limited to past specified federal crimes. If pardons are granted, no criminal jeopardy for specified crimes and no assertions of 5th amendment protection during congressional testimony. Sort of clears out the under brush, allowing focus on impeachment of those in power.

Highest treason eva'. You neva' seen such yuge treason in ya life. May not be the first to treason in US history, but he treasons every single day like Arnold couldn't even imagine treasoning. Giving power to old soviet bosses and the butt hurt about losing the civil war over the USA.

This has to be illegal. If you can just pardon anyone then whats going to stop them from committing crimes? My word he has pardoned thousands of criminals already.

Questions for real attorneys out there: If they have pardons doesn't that mean they have given up some protections for their testimony in matters, say before Congress, other grand juries, etc.?

In case Hegseth and Steven Miller think they are safe, a U.S. president cannot pardon someone convicted by international courts or tribunals (such as the International Criminal Court), because those jurisdictions operate outside the U.S. federal legal system. Their crimes against humanity will stand

All the regime has to do is dangle the idea of mass pardons, to ensure the lackies continuing following orders. And these staffers will stupidly believe the pardons will be forthcoming. Letting staffers take the legal heat will help Trump & the ring leaders keep the legal focus off themselves.

Horrific journalists are already stretching and warming up their, ”But of course Joe mass pardoned his allies, including his own shifty son, so who can say which pardon suite is worse, or if this is even worth being concerned about in the first place?” article-writing fingers.
