His beef is that polls reach about 1% of the population? Like, 3m people total? Looks like the polls are indeed way off due to oversampling fascists.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Mike Johnson: "When I'm in these big arenas, I ask for hands -- 'Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months.' There will be like three hands among 300 people. I'm telling you, these polls are off. All of them."

Not even sure why this would be controversial.

Joshua Erlich@joshuaerlich.bsky.social

here, write it down so it’s easy to repeat: an illegitimate supreme court allowed an insurrectionist barred by the 14th amendment to take office and his pardons aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on

I’m just shocked that Bezos hasn’t intervened in the DC bike lane issue. Where will all the Amazon delivery trucks park now?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

Since there isn’t really a way of measuring what good economics is, I’d think a good part of the explanation is that a lot of awards are appeals to authority. In this case the ‘top’ institutions who’ve always won the awards.

In which case you don’t need to do anything on margin.

Katelyn Burns@katelynburns.com

Just don't ever do anything on margin unless you are insanely wealthy and this is money that you're perfectly fine losing and maybe owing more than you put in.

Good to see that some people can have nice things. This should be the law and practice everywhere.

A motorist in Amsterdam was pulled over for being a public noise nuisance with his car. Noise measurement tests were done and the car was found to be in violation. The driver had to continue his journey on foot and the car is not allowed on public infrastructure until the exhaust is properly muffled

The most important achievements came from neither. The wheel, fire, agriculture or animal husbandry just emerged. In more recent times, achievements came from both since most private achievements are underpinned by public research while few public achievements are possible without private suppliers.

Max Kennerly@maxkennerly.bsky.social

Whatever could be said about that claim when he made it in 1962, it soon became undeniable that government vaccine research, distribution, and mandates are objectively among the greatest achievements of civilization. Claiming otherwise is embarrassing, it's like saying you don't wash your hands.

Looking forward @peterbakernyt.bsky.social’s rending of garments when Stevie Miller’s goons knock on the NYT’s door to sterilize their minority employees.

Mark Joseph Stern@mjsdc.bsky.social

Interesting choice by NYT to publish an op-ed bemoaning America’s projected population decline by a guy who’s massively racist against immigrants and compares IVF to “Nazi eugenics.” The “pronatalists” only want more of a very specific kind of person in this country. It gives the game away.

It’s amazing how the establishment is circling the wagons. The same people who say they can’t fight obvious treason somehow manage to have a coordinated assault on a few people trying to stand up what in most countries would pass for a center-left movement.

Side note but props to @syracuse.com (my hometown-ish outlet) for not only kicking off this DHS agent / First Amendment news cycle, but for going full throttle and digging up even more

Adam Steinbaugh@adamsteinbaugh.bsky.social

After federal agents shot Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, a New Yorker sent ICE's director an email in January comparing him to a Nazi. This week, DHS agents stalked him across New York. His home. A hotel. They gave his wife a letter warning of criminal prosecution. www.syracuse.com/news/2026/06...

Looks like the rule of law isn't really the important bit. You can have a perfectly well established rule of law that is entirely capricious and profoundly unjust. The entire legal system needs rebuilding from the ground up.

Mark Joseph Stern@mjsdc.bsky.social

By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court reverses a decision in favor of Pedro Hernandez, a mentally impaired man who was pressured into an allegedly false confession of murder through these👇unconstitutional tactics. The supermajority says he did not face a deprivation of "clearly established" rights.

This is brilliant. Thomas Zimmer is maybe the clearest-eyed observer of the current state of Trumpism in government.

I think this is a you problem. I’ve repeatedly cancelled my Twitter accounts because there was always vitriol and very, very rarely any actual conversation. And that was before Elon. Here are plenty of people I disagree with but mostly respectful conversations.

when this critique is made, it often feels like it's about politics, like the answer is to just let the Nazis on here, but that misses why X, despite it all, is still a more fun place. it's because the "no fucks given" style there means *more* willingness to engage in roiling, exciting conversation.

Or, you know, I may just want to get information from the better class of independent journalists, academics, and lawyers without having a bunch of brainless goons regurgitating the same shit at me. Because what you consider diverse views can be achieved with 3 lines of code randomizing bullshit.

Corey Atad@coreyatad.com

i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

Whoa, hold up there Jeff—who said anything about "double"? You pay an effective tax rate of 0.98%. We want to centuple your taxes. Then again, you'd still be a billionaire, so maybe more than centuple.

I get why many people don’t want to admit the US is no longer a rule of law democracy and has backslid into competitive authoritarianism. It’s a big change for the worse and unsettling to think about. But that won’t change the fact that it has. And the pro-democracy opposition needs to act like it.

Have to respect the hustle. When the family makes billions in bribes, it's people like Eric, who show up for the small amounts, who make you feel they deeply care. Well, that or it's just that Eric is the failest of fail sons.
