"It's not easy to divest from Amazon." You're right—& that's how they want it to feel! Any move away is powerful. "Books are cheaper there." Also true! But your dollars go further when you shop indie. (Or check out your library!)

If you read, then you know not to give your money to Bezos. The free app Libby will put books on your phone free. And if you’re looking for something obscure, the free app SWAN can usually find it and have it delivered to your hometown library. All you need is a free library card.

While the people who go to these are generally rabid monsters, garage sales and estate sales are great for getting classics and some gems. Also, your library might have a closet with used books. Buy your pretty, expensive, display copies at your local. Thrift paperbacks you keep in your backpack.

Love my Libro!! Only problem is I can’t get signed 1st editions; Powell’s supports that! Currently listening to: Thrilling Tales of Modern Men by Danny McBride. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Local bookstore supported: Bad Animal in Santa Cruz, Ca

The Amazon business model needs to be replicated. Free shipping ✅. Free easy returns. ✅. Low prices. ✅. Every product you need. ✅ Same or next day delivery in many cases. ✅ I’d love to divest.

If it is actually difficult for a customer to not give his money to a single company then that company is too large and needs to be broken up.

Stopped using Amazon about 4 years ago. I spend less as I don’t impulse shop as much. Most of the products I was buying are available thru the manufacturer’s website in many instances for less money. In some cases 5-6$ less. Most offer free shipping at 50$. I buy my books at a small local bookstore.

EBay might as well be Amazon now, unless you buy something old. The last four new things I bought drop shipped from Amazon. And I was careful to choose what looked like indie sellers.

Thrift Books is great for bargains, also BetterWorldBooks, where they donate books to schools and libraries with every purchase. Books don't have to be 'brand new' to be read.

I use Amazon as a search engine, then choose a supplier that allows direct ordering. If none is available, here in the UK it's usually possible to get free shipping to the local post office.

True story, I've never bought anything from Amazon. I like going shopping. I like bookstores. I want to leave my money with local business owners, so they can stay open, feed their families, buy their kids team uniforms etc. By giving money to Amazon it leaves the local community never to return.

I ditched them months ago. Even if I pay more, I'm helping a small bookstore. For people who can't afford that, most libraries will try to get a book in for you if they don't have it. Hoopla (or another such site) is also an option if you are a card holder at an affiliated library.

"I don't have the budget to support my indie." Leaving online reviews, attending events, & engaging with them on social media are great! "There's not an indie nearby." Try ordering directly from one online! It might take a bit longer, but it will be packaged with 💓

Thank you, I need to leave a love note for an awesome bookstore we went to yesterday! Parentheses in Harrisonburg VA My daughter couldn’t decide between two books and we told her to pick one for now. The lady at the register said, can I buy her the other one? 🥹♥️😇 An act of kindness! Thank you!

It’s totally easy to quit Amazon! Almost everything I used to order on Amazon I can find at Etsy, EBay, or ThriftBooks, if not at a small local business. I don’t miss Prime tv either. No WholeFoods or Washington Post anymore. Bezos is not getting any money from me😃

God bless Germany's FBP ( fixed book price) ! Sure it contains exemptions and shady loopholes, but generally it's a good concept.
