"AI is coming, its inevitable" no its not you sniveling weirdo. how are those 3D TVs going. how are NFT markets looking these days. Seen anything cool in the metaverse lately? anyone who says we need to resign to using it, that itll be here whether we like it or not, is a feckless dipshit.

All the companies and execs pushing staff to embrace AI without any idea how it can be added to workflows to improve productivity and staff lives is insane. I keep hearing execs telling staff to embrace AI or be left behind is stupid

Discussing VR with my games class last week, I like to point out that claims of inevitably are claims of power--who has the power to resist & refuse the top-down imposition of a tech?

3D TVs?? I've never heard of this :o The fact that I didn't, probably explains itself lol. (reply attempt 2 because my internet is being extra crap this morning. if you see two replies I'm sorry. I couldn't even see the 1 I posted ^^")

I’m confident the GenAI bubble will collapse - there is literally no path to profit, the problems with it (accuracy, etc.) are inherent, ever-increasing and can’t be solved by throwing more computing power and training data at it. Endless hype is the only thing keeping gullible VC money rolling in.

Yep. But hopefully it’s just the first domino to tumble and will start to knock others - looks like Amazon are “pausing” several new data centres now, that they were all in on not long ago. There has to come a point where investors realise they’re getting nothing back, but FOMO is strong…

I think the big thing is the sunk cost. They need something to pivot the hardware and real estate investments in, a lot of the companies feel like they're sniffing around hosting fascists surveillance technology but that leaves Nvidia out on a ledge (besides the very bad social effects)

Yep. And that contributes to the false perception that its "everywhere" and "everyone is using it". But the reality is that it's not being used for anything beyond novelty, and far from making money on it, companies like OpenAI are losing $ on every free user - which is the vast majority.

The significant difference is the class of people the product is being sold to. LLM products are B2B. They're not consumer products. B2B is special in that B2B products don't need to work in order to keep getting sold for 30 years.

Many must die so they can use 99% of the energy to possibly cure cancer in 10-15 years. The thunderhead hangs dark and vivid, like a bruise. Centuries before, it had its place when evil concentrated and kindness fell; severing evil's head into artisan crafted basket. ❤

Yes haha, I've been bringing up 3D movies and TVs every time this comes up. They were "the future of movies" and everything was 3D left and right. Where are they now? I thought everyone wanted this? 🤔

The only way it’s inevitable is if the machines have already taken over and are propagating themselves. Until then, it’s fully within human capability to stop it.

Indeed. All of the language sounds like the same shit abusers say to their partners or kids to try and convince them not to leave. "You won't do any better than me, I'm an inevitability, you can't escape me." It's abusive scrub language, & should be treated as such.
