And for at least a bit of real world data, Bluesky continues to be the largest single source of traffic (after search) to @techdirt.com. I don't think Threads has ever shown up in any list of referrers. Ever.

Two possibilities: —Threads is becoming the dominant text-based social media app even though nobody you’ve ever met has ever used Threads —Meta is doing some funky math and just counting people who use their Instagram accounts as active Threads users

I think the simplest explanation is there are 300 million ppl every month who accidentally clicked on a "recommended" Threads post appeared in Instagram or Facebook Disclosure: I accidentally do that at least twice a month

I need to patent the idea of attaching eye tracking devices to newsstands and newspaper machines to count everyone who looks at the front page as a daily reader. Who cares if they only briefly passed their eyes across the headline? That counts!

I mean if you were trying to get a number to show advertisers re: how many would see their ad on your front page, it would still be more honest than what meta is doing

I feel like at least the articles I'm seeing recently about bluesky dying is just is a disconnect between the report and the reporting. I have been seeing that daily active users of the app are decreasing not usage in general. I know I never use the app, the web based is just better.

I don’t know a single person who uses Threads… and I wouldn’t use it if it were the only platform left. Fuckerberg deserves jail, not profit. Oh, and someone should tell him that he will never actually be a real boy.

Meta is still Meta and they really don't want to send traffic outside their ecosystem. I'm betting they're double-dipping Instagram users and I suspect it's more about managers gaming internal company metrics than anything else.
