notably his cure is from CAR-T therapy, which is so new I didn’t even learn about it in med school THIS is why we invest in science

It's very cool how it works. Imagine taking a patients blood, arming the t cells with some new and improved limbs for latching on to cancer, and then releasing them back into the patient as robocop t- cells. Some science fiction level type of moves 😎

Is 5 when it counts as a cure for all cancers? I just cleared 4 and my oncologists have been saying since my treatment started that 5 is when they'll call it a cure. I don't know about all cancers, just my personal devil, so I'm just curious honestly.

It’s incredible isn’t it? UPenn is where the tech was first developed here in Philly. Some of the new research shows it can be used to target autoreactive immune cells to treat/maybe cure some autoimmune diseases!!

The speed of medical breakthroughs is wild — CAR-T literally reprograms your immune system to hunt cancer like a custom-built assassin. Makes you wonder what other "impossible" treatments are brewing in labs right now.

no I don’t think so I think a lot of what we teach was already outdated when we teach it, but I that’s more of a Wow Education is Hard than science-moves-too-fast

I learned about it while in treatment, but it’s not very accessible in most of Canada, because provinces don’t cover high cost. I did get an autologous stem cell transplant, which kept the chronic lymphoma in check for 7 years. But I think if it came back, that would have to be the direction to go.
