"but taxes would go up!" ok but premiums would go down even more

I see lots of mentions of the cost of Medicare for All. But, it actually wouldn't necessarily increase health spending, and could actually decrease it. What it would do -- which would be controversial -- is redistribute health care spending from premiums and out-of-pocket costs to taxes.

it would also guarantee that you'd eventually get what you paid in, back. unlike now where you pay out thousands, maybe even tens of thousands, then lose your job, change jobs, change insurers, or even just miss enough payments and *POOF*, all that money you paid is just gone forever.

That 2020 Bernie insurance tax calculator was really eye opening and i wish more politicians would make things like that to remind people how much they owe proportionately to their benefits. Without context, everyone thinks the estate tax applies to them.

There are too many people who think paying $1500/mo in premiums is better than paying $300/mo in taxes, because with high premiums the poor are getting screwed. These people are monsters.

Republicans always try to scare you with things like. Sure this policy will give you an extra $1000 a year but you might have to pay $20 back. Isn't it better to lose the thousand than consider the possibility of paying twenty?

Yea and the dems, particularly Bernie, did a piss-poor job of communicating this. Abdul now the same way. They need to hammer this home. That increasing taxes by 100 dollars a month for M4A is better when you ENTIRELY ELIMINATE your co-pays and 250 dollar a month premium.

except Bernie stated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over etc how the cost of M4A was far cheaper then what the government currently spends on healthcare, by like, $2trillion. and taxes wouldn't even need to be increased. He said it, and people ignored it.

But that's not how you communicate with the electorate. The average voter doesn't care when you talk about billions here and trillions there for the country as a whole. They want to know how it impacts them, individually, on their paychecks. And he never communicated that properly.

How much more can you communicate, "YOU WILL NEVER PAY HEALTHCARE PREMIUMS AGAIN!"? at that point, the person is either too dumb to EVER understand, or is being willfully ignorant because he's not spouting it in between racist mouth-foaming rants on foxnews with an R next to his name in the chyron.

Pre-approvals are so useless at this point I’ve had to pay cash with an in network provider for a covered procedure because the deny rates are too high for them to try. Glad I have however much sucked out of my paycheck for that.

So many people don't understand that, generally when applied properly, taxes SAVE them money in the long run. That extra $100 a year ends up saving you $200 a year. But those savings are often hard to track or people take them for granted.

Like I knew a guy who obliterated his suspension on a pothole, costing him many many thousands to repair. But would also rant and rave about property taxes being too high and he was against raising them even if it was to fix crumbling roads. Just can't afford more taxes, specially after his repairs.

The proposal for universal healthcare in Oregon would, by projections, raise my taxes by....... a fourth of what I pay in premiums alone. which. I mean. Yeah I'll take that trade

"Employee benefits" are one of the most insidious shell games ever invented, hiding people's outrageous premiums under invisible wage decreases. You pay higher taxes but literally earn more money!
