When I saw the ruling my first reaction was to wait for just this because I DON'T KNOW anything about how these things work. That so many people on social media think they're experts on "X" drives me nuts.

She issued the stay AFTER the full November funds were issued to the states. The Feds CAN NOT pull them back. Bravo, Judge Jackson, Bravo. SCOTUS, be careful what you do here. Hungry and starving people have very, very long memories. There are coming calls for SCOTUS retention to be by ballots/6yrs.

And this, “Trump administration does not appear to need a court order in order to pay out November SNAP benefits…” Reminder that Trump feels zero responsibility to care for our people, Americans. Just absolutely mind blowing 🤯

We need 67 Senators, IIRC. Going to be tough. Hope that GOP voters will FINALLY understand that the GOP doesn’t GAF about them, just money and power. But too many GOP voters are STUPID snd easily manipulated. Maybe the shutdown. Insurance, and SNAP will finally change things.

Trump GOP Project 2025 Stephen Miller said quiet part out loud They want America's population to be 100M How to get rid of 240M? Why are they building long term detention camps if they are deporting "illegals" Who will be kept in those detention camps? Meanwhile they are destructing SNAP ACA

Today the wannabe King is attending his first ever Washington Commanders football Game He wants HIS name on their new stadium being built BONUS Every Air Traffic Controller, TSA, Active duty military, Government worker working without PAY, No SNAP 💥HE ORDERED A FLYOVER FOR HIM AT THE GAME💥 💸💸💸💸💸

Cliff notes: KBJ thought there was a risk that if she did not act to grant the stay, her corrupted colleagues would and then the case would be in limbo. With this ruling, she urges the first circuit to make their ruling and her stay "times out" 48 hours after such ruling. I gather the theory is

I started to read it. The author was unkind to readers that want to quickly understand what's going on. I gave up on it, too exhausting. One paragraph at the beginning would have solved the issue for me.

Great explainer re Justice Jackson's chess move and here is The Point too: "...The Trump administration does not appear to need a court order in order to pay out November SNAP benefits; it could simply … choose … to do so. All of this would, of course, go away if that were to happen..."

As an outside observer to the craziness in the US…Black women are leading the charge in this fight against the regime. They stand tall on all fronts and defend democracy with their voices and their vote. We need to learn to follow their lead instead of dismissing and disrespecting. I pray folks do!

Wonder what’s on the breakfast buffet in Mar a Lago. Must be something good with trump going down there this weekend. Why isn’t he dining in the rose garden or the east wing area he tore down. How’s that ball room coming along. Already passed on by the news media!

From article, the real crisis here was caused by the Republican-controlled Congress…for shutting down the federal government; and by the President in the second instance for not doing all he could to keep the SNAP funds flowing through the shutdown. Let’s not lose sight of the forest for the trees.

If Justice Jackson hadn’t acted, the full Supreme Court, which has a conservative majority, might have stepped in and issued its own stay without a time limit. Between a rock and a hard place.

The main story here is about Trump suing to starve people (again) and his desire to ignore the court. He is the villain as usual. So many experts in constitutional law all of a sudden. Sometimes doing what’s right feels wrong in the moment. The media isn’t reporting this accurately.

Having read the article and followed the situation carefully (I'm one of the 40+ million), I respectfully disagree. Two things stand out. Not everyone agrees this 6 million can't be accessed, because it was money put aside specifically for the horror we are living through and the USDA had already...

Judge Luttig has told us once again the reason for NO KINGS DAY and why we cannot just stand on our beliefs, hoping justices will prevail. We have to act in protest. I’m afraid of what that will mean in the not so distant future!😬

Thank you for this post. I was really upset that Ketanji Brown Jackson ordered this, but now it may make more sense. I hope you are right and common sense reigns on Monday.

Her decision surprised me when I first heard it. Then I quickly realized that she is extremely smart and caring, which exactly what we need more of to contend with this regime of hate and stupidity. Thank you SC3, please hang in and we will add more to your ranks ASAP! 🙏

I know. To the majority of under-informed non-policy wonks, all they see is “SCOTUS is helping trump withhold SNAP benefits”. But the truth is more strategic. Justice Jackson is trying to expedite the process as opposed to letting trump possibly drag this out for a year in court filings.

This was really helpful—thank you! I admire KJB so much, and appreciate her defense of the Constitution and our democratic rights and a freedoms, so her stay on FOOD benefits seemed so antithetical to me. Always pays to look deeper! 😊

This administration is doing harm to the American people as a distraction while they redact and completely remove any reference to any person who committed a crime with the Epstein cronies; most of whom are likely in this administrations cabinet. Simple, yet cruel, 'wag the dog'.

It must be so excruciatingly distressing as a legal scholar or honest rule of law lawyer to watch SCOTUS bowing to Trump over upholding our rule of law. It is hard for Americans to watch/tolerate……especially as it relates to feeding the hungry

Beshear: Let me be clear. The president has both the funding and the authority to fund snap during a shutdown. In fact, every other president in every other shutdown has done so. People going hungry in this instance is a choice that this president has made.

Either way, doesn’t matter why, people are not eating. CHILDREN are not eating because of this. This whole damn government is responsible. I don’t care why. People already got bare minimum benefits, now it’s cut in half. Cut your groceries in half, how well are you eating now?

I believe that, since it's still in the appellate process, she'd risk DJT going for and winning an en-banc and presumable more permanent stay. I take it to mean that she's forcing the issue to come to a resolution, one way or another, more quickly?

Kick it back down out of reach of the gang of 5 for the moment, stop the Trump legal leapfroging, force the lower courts to get their shit together, hope some folks get fed. All these fake headlines blaming SCOTUS for taking away SNAP is exactly what's wrong with billionaires owning the 4th estate.

The same money, SAME money should have been made to give our many good immigrants the SAME PATH to citizenship Trump gave HIS undocumented worker. NO KINGS ICE agents have new tools to track and ID people

I’m one of those who had an immediate unpleasant reaction. The right has done the most horrendous things, and every time they have seemed to compromise on anything they have screwed us over. How many times has one of them been reasonable and we all just fall away, only for them to…

only for them to do an about-face? It’s enough to make us a stop trusting our own judgement. And that’s what he wants, to keep us off-balance. It’s hard to watch people suffer. My family has been working overtime all week helping a family in need, and I was still knee-deep in that-…

The bigger question is; why does the world's largest economy need to subsidise food purchases for 1 in 8 (42 million) of its citizens. Wages have stagnated for decades. Rich and Poor are now so far divided, it's probably unfixable for a whole generation. Poverty is rife, politics is screwed, Trump!

Read the "one First" explanation of what Ketanji Jackson-Brown's actions were probably about. This president has caused more problems for this country, especially in the courts. So her ruling is just for 48 hours if I understood correctly. And that allows Circuit to do their thing. Yikes!

I did just read an article about the stay. Its really fucked but it was done to help. Its complicated but worth a read. Mueller she wrote has a good break down of the logic used by the justice that issued the stay.

I figured she had to compromise to keep them from staying it. I am shocked they question tariffs but didn't see this as going too far. I shouldn't have been. The repub SCOTUS are reprehensible.

If it works out that SNAP benefits do ultimately get out faster and a decision by the full SC (owned by Trump) is avoided it’s a true win-win. People get the help they need and Trump is on record asking the SC to allow him to starve people.

And they're on record agreeing to..people are starving...you don't stop their food benefits for ANY reason I don't give a shit what the exscuse is...tell the kids that while they have nothing to eat...tell the parents that who are going without meals so their kids can eat...I doubt they give a fuck

She's a very smart woman, and she found the best way to handle the situation. It would be so great if some of the other Justices would be as smart and well, judicial.
