He pays more to fight a wealth tax than he pays in taxes. He pays more to fight a wealth tax than any of us would earn in 10 lifetimes.

This is how you know we need a wealth tax

He knows that if it’s introduced, it’s going to spread to other states and possibly even federally, potentially increasing his tax liability even further. That’s why he’s trying to prevent the seed from being planted.

To be fair, I support the multiple levels of government seen in Anglo-Saxon times, and thus think we should have a 100% tax on the 0.01% but the tax should be the responsibility of block captains, Native chiefs, guilds, unions, credit unions, and trade convoys. Governments will stop tax havens.

The *minimum* amount of his wealth tax should be calculated as the amount he has spent to avoid a wealth tax. Like the Star Trek force fields that drew their energy from the amount of physical resistance the captives were exerting.

That is a good way to deplete them of their money. We should create more laws taxing these fcks. Let them flood their attorneys with cash. Let the attorneys become billionaires and then we tax them.

I've never been fortunate enough to be very wealthy but I would think one would reach a saturation point at some time. I mean, wouldn't you get to a point where you finally say, hey, I got enough money, let's just live life?

To put it another way, if I had 100 billion and was taxed 5 billion, and only had a paltry 95 billion left, how would I notice how it changed my life? Would they need to defer the purchase of the 10th home or yacht?

A hoarder's mentality for sure. So few of our billionaire oligarchs possess the virtue of generosity toward their employees and customers, let alone the general public. It's all about accumulating and protecting wealth. Greed reigns supreme in the USA. 🤔

Makes me sad. He grew up here in Prince George's County Maryland, was a student of the public schools here, including the science & tech one. Makes me think he doesn't want future children to have the advantages he had

There's clearly math behind this. I would guess he's calculated what his wealth tax might be over some period of time, and cumulatively over that period of time that number is significantly larger than $100Million. MAGAS don't know math. The Billionaire class certainly does.

This reminds me of something Ted Turner supposedly said to Jane Fonda when she asked if he was worried about getting into heaven as a rich man. His reply: Belief in heaven is for the poor. I have money. I wonder if he thought about that on May 6th of this year?

What's more idiotic, are those who are behind the movememt and voting no on the wealth tax. They earn most likely less than 50k a year. 🙄😒

The ultimate luxury isn't the wealth itself; it's the ability to spend a fortune just to ensure you don't have to spend a fraction of it on everyone else. Tax avoidance as a full-time hobby.

That $100 million is .0004 of Brin's net worth. That's like someone with $10,000 in their bank accounts spending $4. It's pocket change.

We won’t get a wealth tax without a change in the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party is owned by the wealthy just like the Republican Party. They both want to stop any politicians on the further left since the welfare for the rich would be at risk.

every billionaire is getting into the act: Irish billionaire and Stripe co-founder Patrick Collison - who resided in Silicon Valley - donated $7 million to "Building a Better California," a political action committee fighting to block a proposed asset tax on billionaires in the US.

Where does a billionaire's money go if he fights the wealth tax? Where does his money go if he doesn't fight it? At what point does he feel like he controls the situation? At what point will he realize he never can? Are these rhetorical questions or do we know the answers to them? SPILL!

That means that the world's fourth-richest man, whose net worth hovers around $267 billion, has now spent more than $100 million to avoid an estimated $13.3 billion tax payment.

Hi fellow (former) Floridian! I read an article earlier this year that said there were less than 200,000 native Floridians left in the state. It's pretty sickening, and I'm seriously thinking of moving out of state next year. California would be nice if I could afford it!

Yep... Heaven forbid someone should have to try to live on such a paltry sum I wonder which of his prescription medications he cuts in half to stretch 'em out so he can buy food for another day or two??

CA’s Prop 40 would impose a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of around 200 billionaires that live in the state. The windfall would mostly go toward funding CA’s healthcare programs. The state's Medicaid program alone could lose up to $30 billion in fed. $$ once Trump's cuts take effect next year.

The billionaires are some sick sons of bitches and of course because ultra wealth exposure is ultra damaging to psychology and cognition…comparable to heroin or meth addiction, if not worse. They’ll NEVER hand over the keys to our democracy; we’ll have to rip them from their pallid claws.

They all seem to have a lot of money 💰 to build Data centers all over the country quickly. Carbon tax? Environmental impacts fee? Desalinization or reclaimed water mandates?

I'm wondering what would happen if one of them actually went to 'real jail' for tax evasion? A week after that guy's first prison shower the treasury would be brimming. The US would have no shortage of scientific funding for anything. That's a real golden age.

He loved CA until his Maha wifey said ...ewe. You know who else pays more in fighting wealth tax than actually paying taxes? Jeff Bezos. Bezos pays Trump directly or #Melania directly for her #prostitute #documentaries vs. just paying taxes.

I wonder what are the top 8 "spends" of the ultra rich.....aside from homes and commodities etc? What is it that he would want to do with an extra $13.5 billion?

That's 100 million we know about. When the insanely rich aren't buying politicians, they spend a lot on propaganda designed to convince you that they have a million times your wealth because they're a million times more valuable. Total BS of course. petersironwood.com/2022/07/09/t...

My pitch for the reality show: When idealistic “don’t be evil” mission statements meet unimaginable wealth, it’s a match made in purgatory. Tune in to see adorkable nerd Sergey’s journey to ugly oligarch overlord.

As a billionaire he could live anywhere he wanted and some places are tax havens. As someone that lives here where "we are all in together" he should pay his fair/unfair share of taxes like everyone else. Maybe he ought to use his resources to make a fair and equitable tax code for everyone.

If he'd just pay the damn tax, it would be cheaper than donating money to those politicians! This Reagan era mistake based on the outright lie about trickle-down in capitalism now results in wealthy scions who believe they are entitled to NOT PAY taxes like ordinary people who have less! END IT NOW!

Two thoughts: Think of all the people that are food insecure, he could have fed with $100,000,000. If Mamdani in NY can successful tax the rich and pour it back into the community, why can't every town, city, state do exactly the same thing? We can if we STOP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS!
