Gut. Eyeball test. From what I remember he was one of the more dominant closers of his time. I’m sure there are stats that say otherwise. But hey I’m not an actual voter and this is more for fun anyways as an internet commenter

Though probably should sub him w Manny to be more consistent as the steroids issue with him is same as ARod (and previously Bonds) and without that issue over their heads probably would have made it in by now

My hypothetical ballot! Felix Hernandez Andruw Jones Dustin Pedroia Andy Pettitte Manny Ramirez Alex Rodriguez Jimmy Rollins CC Sabathia Ichiro Suzuki Billy Wagner

I had it the other way initially. Felix but not either of Sabathia or Pettitte. Felix’s peak was better, but not miles better, and the other two have close to 90 wins on him. Not sure I have it right. In one game I would take Felix third and Pettitte third out of that group. 🤷‍♂️

This year we hopefully will see the needed shift away from Pitcher counting numbers. Felix Hernandez needs to stay on the ballot until writers realize it's not 1968. Felix will look like the model for dominant pitchers in 2033

The scandal already has tarnished him. He was south of 50% in 2023 and just over 50% in 2024. If he continues to gain traction this year, maybe he has hope later. But it seems unlikely.

Most interesting HOF ballot I've ever seen. Ichiro jumps out right away for me, deservedly so. Then so many "Yes, but what abouts" and "So good, but a Hall of Famer?" Most years have seemed much more clear-cut. The results and voters' rationales will be fun to see.

Asking this purely because the MLB HOF is weird and no one is a lock: why do you feel Ichiro is a lock. While he has great counting stats and was a good fielder, he is statistically a barely above average hitter

His career OPS+ suffers because, well, he stuck around for far too long probably. His MLB OPS+ through age 37 was 117 and that of course doesn’t include many of his (potentially) more productive years in Japan. Then he went out and played NINE more years. 😂

This is so dumb i shouldn't even reply to this, but this man was only "barely above average" for his career because of his last 7 years of hanging on but for his first 10 seasons this man was an MVP candidate every year and never had less than 4.7 fWAR in ANY season. UNANIMOUS HOF.

Because if you lead the league in hits 7 times, in batting average twice, and steals once, you’re probably getting in. Add an MVP, ROY, 10 Gold Gloves and 10 All-Star Games, you’re definitely getting in. Then consider reaching 3,000 hits while not playing in MLB until age 27, you’re a lock.

IDK that I'd put Beltran in the HOF either, but calling him a "barely above average" hitter is bonkers. His career wRC+ is 118. Meaning he was 18% better than league average thruout his career. In 11/20 seasons it was 120+, including a few in the 130s and 140s. He was way above avg.
