Remember when Biden kept Trumpist Louis DeJoy who helped run USPS into the ground? Anyone who says Biden didn't have that power, the board does, gets blocked for pedantry. He chose board members.

I don’t believe it. MAGA GOP wants to get rid of the USPS so we can’t mail our ballots! Plenty of taxpayer dollar$$ for an illegal war so there must be plenty $$$ somewhere else for the US Postal Service! 😡 VOTE BLUE to end this MAGA GOP BS! 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻💙🇺🇸💙❗️❗️❗️

The postal service is not supposed to make money. DeJoy ran it like a business and ran it into the ground to pave the way for for-profit mail services. And no one in Washington was against that.

I’m sad about this because I’m sure that there are people who depend on it. However, personally, I don’t need anything I get in the mail. All of my bills are paid online automatically. I very rarely get anything through mail instead of email. FedEx, UPS, etc. can replace the package delivery.

FedEx and UPS are the USPS biggest customers. They rely on services only the USPS provides like address verification. Once the USPS is gone FedEx and UPS will have to raise their prices. It's not even "will raise them (due to lack of public alternative)", though that's also a possibility.

Good for you. Now think for a moment about folks who don't have the online access you have & the computer skills you have. What will happen to them? FedEx/UPS package delivery is already more expensive than USPS right now. Do you think their prices will go DOWN once they have no competition? /1

Millions who are ill, mobility impaired, living in remote locations, & in the military will no longer be able to VOTE. OR it will be MUCH more expensive, with no guarantee the ballot will be delivered, or accepted when it arrives. Please think about someone other than yourself in this matter. /end

That should be a winning campaign message for the GOP with senior voters who receive their meds by mail-especially those living in rural areas with limited access to pharmacies. Those same elderly Republican voters are also reluctant to pay bills online & have their bills delivered by mail. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Old what's-his-face that Trump put in to run the USPS did resign. However, "me thinks" there's a rat in the basket. It's making sure the books are written to show that the USPS will go bankrupt. And to remedy this situation, all it would take is one more investigation.

this has been a stated goal and something that has actively been legislated in favor of causing for about four decades and democrats haven't given a shit at any point during that time. why would you think they will care now

Democrats haven't had full control of house and senate since 2010. Because dumb bitches keep finding new fun reasons to not vote. Then they complain that democrats haven't done anything about it without bothering to look up what democrats have tried to do which was blocked by republicans.

despite that they have managed to pass a bunch of legislation through the normal means that political parties do when they don't have complete control but didn't care enough to fight this one, and also they had a bunch of times with complete control in the prior decades to nip this in the bud

Yeah but it's nOt MAkiNg A pRoFiT. You know, just like libraries, the fire department, etc, ya know, everything our taxes fund to benefit us and NOT make a profit. Goddamn Republicans just want to ruin everything.

Maybe the US Postal Service could explore expanding on its original mission to account for changing technology. And continue as a well run not for profit organization. Well, it's a thought anyway.

And just to be clear: There is no way "we can fund without them". I won't explain the Congressional funding process, but I hope you already know that Rcons control what comes up for a vote in the House & the Senate. EVERYTHING we don't have in terms of funding is THEIR FAULT. #BlameRepublicons

Rcons are 100% responsible for the continuation of this horror show. Rcons could end his presidency TODAY. But there is NOTHING Dems can do to stop him without Republican cooperation. Not one single thing. That's not "pointing fingers at the other side". That's facing facts. #BlameRepublicons

Because of purposeful mismanagement. We have all seen this coming for years. It’s in the damn project book! Anyway, the post office isn’t a for-profit business, it’s a mandated government service.

it has declining mail because DeJoy broke the delivery ability. You cannot count on the PO like we used to do, it was a fabulous American service that is now not. sigh

Same, retired letter carrier here (35+) yrs... we fought and still do to this day to give the American people a service they can rely on every single day to every house/business, repeat EVERY one..!

It would cost less if they sent items the 15 miles from sender to addressee instead of - for no particular reason- 6 states away and back. This just happened to me and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was intentional: sabotage from those at the top who want to be broken.

Every day we hear about another government service lost to us, and meanwhile Trump and billionaires are getting richer. It's clear to see what's going on here.

Every single person ever appointed by Trump to any agency was sent there with the sole purpose of destroying it. Start with Russell Vought. His job is to throw widows into the street. RFK Jr. is well on his way to killing us all. Kristy Noem made ICE into the Waffen-SS. The USPS will be destroyed.

The notion that the Postal Service should "make money" or be "self-funding" is anathema to its mission, which is to make mail/parcel delivery available to everyone at an affordable price. It's like claiming FEMA, or the National Weather Service should be making money. News orgs should note this.

Last year I created a downloadable/customizable “USPS Teach-In Workshop & Toolkit” that folks can use *anytime* to organize an action-oriented event in their community. I’ll be updating slides in light of current events for anyone who wants to help fight for the post office 💌 usps-teach-in.carrd.co

Dread the demise of the Post Office❓ Well, thank the Republicans. They have been trying to kill it for decades! And the money they save can be spent on Argentina, frills at the Pentagon or just more golf trips for FOTUS😡

It hasn’t run out of money. Republicans have put unreasonable requirements for it and want a public service to be for-profit.

And it makes no sense as those for-profit businesses rely on the USPS for maintaining addresses, last-mile deliveries, and a host of other services that it basically does at-cost so that they can sweep in and take the bulk of the money-making postage services.

best thing I read in 2025 was "when they talk about the post office turning a profit, ask when the police department or fire department is going to make a profit" it's a public service, not a corporation. it benefits us all; it was designed that way and should remain that way.

here's the thing: it WOULD be profitable if not for the burdensome 75-year pension funding requirement. they literally have to fund the retirements of employees that haven't even been born yet! in australia, AusPost is profitable. not by heaps, but it also doesn't need to be.

12 million on lobster, 15.1 million on ribeyes, 225 million on furniture. The Pentagon spent 93 billion dollars in one month, yet somehow a cheap, public service that benefits everyone costs too much.

Trumpublicans have been working to bankrupt USPS for years in their effort to privatize everything. It's a service for citizens not just another source of profit. It's the longest-running government agency going back to Ben Franklin and is part of out country's fabric. It should be preserved.

My daughter mailed the Chinese New Year's Card's on February 10. The first thank you arrived on March 7. She paid over $1.00 per card to mail them. Is there any question about declining mail volume?

Maybe if the US wasn't spending billions everyday bombing a country without consent of Congress, we could afford a Postal Service - which is actually in the CONSTITUTION. Maybe if Noem hadn't spent billions on her concentration camps we could afford a Postal Service.

In 2022 the PAEA [Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act] was abolished. The savings to the USPS was a total of $57 billion over the next ten years. 5.5 to 5.7 billion a year. What happened to that, Mr. DeJoy?

"Service" is right there in the name. I pay for and expect it to continue. It's not a business that needs to break even or be profitable. It's a service we fund and get. It's up to the gov to continue to toss my money into the hole that keeps it running. Shutting it down shouldn't be an option
