Two comments here worth repeating: * Wasn't there an impeachment process versus Trump in his first term, for extortion vs Ukraine? (Answer: yes) * Americans trying to steal the wallet of a guy while he’s being mugged.

Where we were: the US protected countries because it promoted justice. Where we are: the US wants half of a countries' resources, while Russia takes the other half. Together depriving a country of future prosperity, as if it's a game of Catan. No values, everything transactional. Europe is fuming.

The CIA has had its ways in some Lat-Am countries, yes. But it wasn't an official government policy to openly extort democratic nations and verbally attack allies. But I get what you're saying. It's possible Europe had a too rosy view of the US, as it was never at the short end of such affairs.

some is very strange way of saying "almost all of them, some more than once". understanding history makes understanding the present a lot easier, and a LOT less painful. the united states has not been a net positive on the world. trump was a natural inevitable production, not an outlier

If the US wants half of minerals - for electric cars hence Musks’s interest - while Russia is stealing the other half (see pic) we’re basically robbing a country of future prosperity. If Europe and America under Biden had eyes on the ball it would have stepped in with defenses (no offensive forces)

Thank you President Zelensky! I am so very sorry for what my country and this illegal administration is doing to your country. Please continue with your courage, strength and amazing leadership. The whole world of people with consciences loves you, cares about you, supports you and cheers you on. 💕

What NYT meant to write: “Trump’s Lawless Extortion: Demands Ukraine Surrender Half Its Mineral Wealth for U.S. Aid, but Zelenskyy’s Heroic Defiance Upholds Sovereignty and Honor”. Your welcome.

As an American here, absolutely yes it’s right to reject Trump’s false offer of support. He intent to cash in from the corruption of the sale of minerals. Zelensky, we all know that Trump also harbors the hatred of Ukraine long before Putin’s aggression began. He’s a problem. Don’t ignore him either

Good for Zelensky, though I wonder if he could have taken a page from the Canada and Mexico playbooks and countered by just offering whatever is already coming to the U.S.

This fucking kakistocratic regime & all MAGATS are not only portraying Americans as morons worldwide, but they're also making us look like the enemy of all allied nations. Bastards! Everyone hates Americans thanks to MAGAT scum.

Trump threatening Canada.. That's like threatening the adult crossing guard at your child's school. That's like threatening the best man at your own wedding. That's like threatening a fellow enlisted man who carried your wounded body on his back out of the battle zone. You ok with that America?

I’m starting to like this guy.. I always thought, since the war his approach of the western world was help me find me to fight this war.. he was always out begging for funds and arms.. and he was aggressive. Statements plain. Direct. Thought he’d give in to The Moron on minerals for funds..

President Zelensky needs to turn away from Trump, because any assurances Trump might provide are completely worthless. Europe needs to stand up and fight for Ukraine. It is within the gift and ability of European countries to do it. It’s that simple. Slava Ukraini!

Trump is coercing Zelensky AGAIN. Vindman warned the whole country about trump the first time. Nobody listened. Zelensky has seemed like a decent guy throughout the disgusting invasion by Putin. It’s a shame Zelensky has to kowtow to a POS like trump. AGAIN.

US Senator Shaheen said this morning, no one is sure who owns these minerals at this time. Much are in Soviet controlled Ukraine, some areas are owned mining companies. Is Trump going to wrestle rights away from Putin? Sounds like US didn't learn any lessons from Iraq. Troops dying for oil.

... and because 'the rest of Nato' supports Ukraine, the Trumpet has spat the dummy and starts the aggressive-lie-mode. 'No-one can help...you can't be in Nato' - which really means 'we've sold you out to the Ruskies already so please cover our backs before they start checking my bank'.

Republicans are in charge and are not going to allow him to be impeached. In two years maybe Dems can take back Congress and then they can make a move but someone already submitted articles of impeachment which probably went right into the shredder.

They`re Ukraine`s assets! They fight hard to retain them & democracy. Putin invaded the Breadbasket of Europe to seize assets as he seized Russia`s. Now Trump helping him out! Trump/Putin/Musk gang using dictatorship/fascist tactics reminiscent of those we sacrificed millions of lives to stop!

Cheap, grifting self destructive buffoon it is then, cuz' Trump as dumb and braindead he is atm because of his age kicking in and lack of education proper, he'll do ANYTHING to gain more MOOLAH, thus why so many billionaires are around him, he's their SUGAR DADDY and treats em' all like a Mafia.

Good! I don't know what's possessing this "administration" in the way they think they can just make these demands of not just Ukraine but the rest of the freaking world, but I fear the worst for my country as I have ever felt in half a century of being here, watching all this happening around me.

We did not agree to protect Ukraine when they gave up their nukes. They gave up their nukes in exchange for guarantees from Western nations to respect their independence. We would have liked them to join NATO but their own leaders, along with Russia, have stymied that for decades.

Man, I hate it when people call me ignorant because I'm not ignorant. In the time it took you to type this fucking comment, you could have looked up the fucking agreement, read it for your fucking self, realized you're wrong, and then fucked off. YOU are intentionally ignorant. LOOK IT UP.

I don't need a refresher, you need more detail. We committed to, "seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine...if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression" which we did. We never offered to protect them with our military.

Remember Trump’s ego is invested in a Peace Deal. He fancies himself as a Nobel Laureate. 🤦‍♂️ Make him work for it President Zelenskyy. - pre 2014 borders - NATO membership - reparations - Putin plus MH17 goons in The Hague

Unfortunately Trump holds all the cards concerning Ukraine-without our assistance via arms and dollars Zelensky will have to rely on Europe to supplement that loss-Possibility?. Hopefully, the original reporting was correct, that Trump wanted the sale of mineral resources to us for US support,

Ukraine rejected…an offer?…from the United States to relinquish its mineral rights? To the US? Is this passive voice gone so haywire that you no longer have any concept of subject and object?

If Trump does not get the minerals, our support for Ukraine will taken away. Another reason to protest in Washington or your local government seat. Make the people’s voice be heard.

Trump is immune to protests. During the summer of BLM, if he could he would have rounded up all of those protestors and put them in prison. He said as much over and over. It needs to be something bigger like a walk out of work day or block the highways like they did in Canada a few years ago.

He needs to put us in prison then. This won’t be solved civilly. They won’t allow it. Trump’s way is to make things he doesn’t want very difficult. That way we won’t do it again. They will beat us and worse. Democracy is expensive.

Ick Blackmail is a bad look. Especially since we all know Trump wouldn't even keep our side of the bargain. That lying conman never seems to keep his promises. Example: grocery and gas prices keep going up, even though Trump swore he'd bring them down on day one. The lying conman lied and conned.
