The important and omitted context is that FIFA is going this at the request of the Iranian government because these are pre-revolutionary flags. Let’s at least be angry for the right reasons.

Morally? They shouldn't be able to do it in the first place. In reality? When SCOTUS says so. You have less than a month to get an injunction on the shadow docket, go!

If someone had a us flag with trumps ugly face in the middle would they confiscate that? MAGA hats? Not being smart ass, genuinely curious

NYT was just the first search result and it's straightforward reporting: FIFA got a court to uphold its ban on this specific flag. As to what that flag means, this post and its follow-up are less simplistic than what I said:

On just a bit of half-assed googling, I get the idea that the "lion and sun" flag is...really complicated? IIUC it was in use in both the Democratic Interlude and the Late Pahlavi era, and today is more broadly seen as an anti-IRI symbol and not specifically monarchist? Except...

Feel free to present any counterfactual you want, person on the internet. My main point is not that the flag is good or bad or that the prohibition of it is "Good, Actually." My point is that OP intentionally let people presume it was FIFA kowtowing to the Trump Regime

Thanks for the clarification! I'll sleep better knowing that Samuel Alito personally went down there to make sure people could fly whatever flag they wanted
