this panel accepts the argument that physical features like skull shape have anything to do with human value. it takes the focus away from the racism and puts it squarely on appearance

I agree, yeah, it's the tough dialectic between saying things that factually hurt Nazis' feelings, but also reproduce their logic... like how we punch Nazis, but not random people. And it's a discussion on how to hurt them without reproducing their logic that I think we don't have enough, indeed.

As an aside, and it's a point so often made as to be petrified into cliché, but NONE of those lads who wang on about eugenics looks like they're going to be invited to the breeding population any time soon.

No disagreement here. It just strikes me as funny this type get the idea that they're paradigm cases of breeding stock. Like the comfortable lads who say that life IS bellum omnium contra omnes, who wouldn't last a day without getting scurfed up against a wall, their wallet lifted if that were true.

Professor Kehinde Andrews speaks to BBC Newsnight following the tragic death of Professor Jason Arday. For days, Andrews had warned that Arday was being subjected to what he described as a “dedicated, coordinated smear campaign”. Tonight, his words carry a devastating weight.

From the department statement: Cofnas' writings are ‘the academic version of “flood the zone with shit” (Steve Bannon’s famous statement about the Trump campaign in 2016): spread controversial, unsubstantiated claims that others must respond to.’

Morality and decency aside, the main reason why eugenics hasn't been "reconsidered" by science is because it doesn't even work. Selective breeding of humans for the traits eugenicists desire is just not possible, and no amount of "re-evaluation" will change that, its just *not* a science

yes, and it's quite nuanced sadly as it started from science, and sadly science is a fluid concept that we must protect from this slippage 1/2

Made a table to make the categories of theoretical criteria, virtues and vices, accessible in: What makes a good theory, and how do we make a theory good? doi.org/10.31234/osf... I make the case for us to think explicitly about theories and place desired characteristics into virtues and vices. 1/

The Dutch will receive collective punishment in seven hells for their administratively correct procedures. Literally the kind of crap the Nazis came out with to excuse "just following orders".

Man. I know I'm guilty of an ad hominem here, but: Just based on my looking at this guy, I'm having very uncharitable thoughts about the *real* reasons he's a standard-bearer for eugenics.

it's not ad hom if it's a conclusion and not a starting point LMAO so you're fine: it's abuse, but we punch nazis too, so there's a nuance

Well, thanks. I'd always tell my students, Attack the argument and not the person making the argument; but good heavens: Looking at him, the better angels of my nature suddenly seemed to have gone on vacation. So, thanks for assuaging my rhetorical discomfort there.

I'm going to make a prediction: Cofnas will be found, at some point, to have plagiarized some or all of his work, abused students, or otherwise acted in a manner that is unethical, illegal, and worthy of breaking tenure. It will not make the international news and he will not lose his position.
