Can you blame them, in essence this is what Trump is advocating. Globalization has problems but was a trade off, allowing countries with a large poor and not highly educated populous to make incremental steps to improve their conditions. While allowing "richer" countries to benefit from lower costs.

The question is how many Americans want those jobs on the kind of pay Chinese workers are paid? It was an argument with Brexit in the UK, the free market allowed fruit pickers to come from mainland Europe and our R Wing politicians said it was taking UK jobs.

He's such an idiot and we are going going to lose this. This is the war China can win. Far more cheaply than a military war. Destroy our economy. Take Taiwan while we gasp for our economic breath. WWIII on the cheap! Never lead with your vulnerabilities. Trump has bankrupted how many businesses?

When factories were being sent off shore it was called rationalizing production. Replacing humans with robots meant increasing production. This idea of a government supplied minimum income will never happen under Republicans. Never vote with a party that wants to end you.

Profound indeed. This is the future the oligarchy has planned for us. Not like. Can’t take credit for the image. I was looking for the artist’s name to give credit, and lo and behold, it is the artist called… AI.

Sadly, I assumed that, but it is sort of fitting that a picture depicting the cold, stark reality of contemporary serfdom was produced by something with no soul. Maybe that's why it is so hauntingly cold.

By the time manufacturing moved (if they actually try) to the US, the robots will take all of those jobs. That means the present and future financial pain for consumers will have no benefit.

uSA has the larger GDP, yet…. As of 2023, approximately 37 million people in the United States were living in poverty, which represents about 11 percent of the population. The poverty threshold for a family of four was set at around $30,000.

The U.S. government standard for what constitutes the poverty level is a f’ing JOKE. The people who pulled those numbers outta their asses never lived in poverty, that’s for damn sure.

I’ve spent a bit of time over several trips to different parts of China for work. The difference in efficiency is baffling. There is no world that the west can compete with them in terms of labour and efficiency.

I was testing something that I needed to plug a cable into a piece of equipment and a computer. At home in Canada I would do this myself and be ready in 5 mins. In China they just whistled and a team of 5 people ran out of nowhere and set it up for me in about 15 secs. Everything is like this there

I don’t even know how to convey this to people. If they’ve never seen this, they won’t understand. This is way outside of Shanghai or Beijing. It’s “rural” cities that only have 1 mil people. We could never compete.

One time I went to a city called Jingzhou for a week or two at a time about 6 months apart. The first time, this didn’t exist at all. The second time, this was there. It’s so massive, you can barely wrap your head around it.

"THE SLEEP OF REASON PRODUCES MONSTERS" (Goya).China, EU, Canada not caving to Trump. Damage Train to US picking up speed. Trump allies show worry. Trump is incapable to self-correct-a trapped narcissist. Is WAR (bomb Iran) the next move Trump will take to restore his distorted sense of control?

Someone please explain to me. I’m a little stupid. Going to bring manufacturing back to US to be carried out by robots. No Jobs. Will be able to stop importing from abroad as we will be making it here. Where is the money

Plus the industrial robots are a monopoly of Japan, and now with China. Good luck to the USA to beg them to buy them... Trump is like a surgeon that cut a patient sane legs: "Good news! You are going to walk with shiny high tech prosthetic legs"... that do not exist!

Hate to tell you this, but that is the very definition of a poor American in the rest of the world, it's the stereotype. "The poor" in America are seen as obese from eating poor value food that makes them unhealthy, with no healthcare or education to help them make better choices.

Yep and so do we, and it's spreading (so to speak) to countries like Australia where a large proportion of the population follows their perception of the American lifestyle. All the junk food chains in every town & suburb, supermarkets with aisles of Coca Cola & junk food.

Did piece work a few times. Work your ass off all day for next to nothing. Earned 25-50 cents for a pound/sack of berries/apples/onions/potatoes; 5 cents per phone book/2 cents for flyers/utilty bill per address over 8 postal routes; assemble/sew items for 3-7 cents each. Bonus sandwich sometimes.

Yep, I packaged produce. I worked in a refrigerated warehouse, standing and bending for for 12 hour shifts and made about $10-20 per day. My hands were numb, my back and legs were killing me and I made enough to put gas in the car so I could come back to work.

You did well to last 2 days as a robot, ElleC 👏 A little younger, I tried picking string beans in Mildura (damned hot 🌞). Lasted 4 hours. Total respect to farm workers 🙏

But it won’t. That’s a point of making child labor legal in FL&AR. Minimum wage increasing while costs of everything (including groceries, utilities&housing) increase defeats the purpose of increasing the minimum wage.We need minimum wage to increase while keeping basic necessities affordable.

He also occasionally slips up & tells the truth, that even if this stupid goal of making America a great nation of factory workers somehow succeeded, automation (robots) would be doing most of the work

We won't be fat anymore. That much is sure. I was literally starving with my first sweatshop, clock punching minimum wage job in the 70s. Couldn't afford food, rent, power, car. Life was manual labor, bus/walking everywhere, stair climbing, crappy rental, penny counting desperation. The bad old days.

Well that’s completely misleading. Weren’t some states legislating children to be able to work? These folk will be at home while their kids are in the factory earning money to pay for their parent’s insulin.

There was a movie called "Crazy People." In it, there was a spoof ad for Sony showing small Asians working in an electronics factory and then big fat Americans. The tagine was "Sony. Because Americans are just too damn tall." My wife and I damn near died.

Dudley Moore Classic. Paramount Pictures Presents The Freak. This movie just wont scare you it will FUCK you up for life. Then the ticket prices soar. Price to pay to get fucked up for life. Those prices then are still lower than average prices today

Quite apt as well. China is already the winner - the new hegemon. Russia is its vassal state. And US/GOP regime serves Putin. The transition happened with so little resistance few in US noticed. Much like when UK was replaced as hegemon by US after WW2.

I’m so sick of the “fat” stereotype. Fatphobia is rooted in racism and yet everyone still believes it’s ok to make fun of them as if they aren’t productive active people. The only people across the world who believe that all Americans look like this are the ignorant ones who have never been here.

Not gonna lie ... there were signs, developments and hints for years now but nothing has flatout confirmed to me that the Chinese age is dawning like this Trump spoof video from China. It's inevitable now. Whether you like it or not, China is becoming the new cool whereas the US is a rotten corpse.

Well, what a nice prospect. Trump thinks it’s about time the US relieved the Vietnamese, Cambodian, Sri Lankan, Chinese etc. people doing the same work in the same circumstances for lousy wages.
