Who cares what he does or doesn't know or understand? That's why we're *supposed* to have checks on presidential actions like this. Congress is *supposed* to know. So where are those ineffectual cowards? We should all be asking that question.

Thanks for this insightful piece; the observations about his 2020 speech are spot on. It also occurs to me, as a lifelong renter, that Trump has never lived anywhere he couldn’t overhaul to fit his desires (even at military school and college, I expect he lived wherever/however he wanted).

That’s why it made no sense to him that he should leave after 4 years. “Trump derangement” has been his own internal syndrome this entire time. Then there are people who either recognize it or celebrate it.

It seems likely that a person whose whole life, from his earliest days, was defined by being part of the landlord class, would be unable or unwilling to conceive of himself as a tenant. Even (especially) in a house that’s ostensibly owned by the American people.
