I see myself flocking from 🦋 back to Twitter. Bluesky is calmer - but also more boring. It didn't spark interesting discussions, And never really moved beyond starter packs.

I found the calm and friendly exchange a refreshing contrast to the heated right wing frenzy on X, but I'll stay on both platforms because if you weed out the MAGAs and curate your feed, you can actually gain interesting insights on X, too.

Musk owns X and he IS A MAGA. By staying on his platform you are directly supporting him. At best, you're another metric and more data. At worst, he is able to manipulate you in some way that isn't obvious, or you click an ad and he gets paid literal money.

I know, it's hard but I'm following some really interesting folks over there who are mostly left/intellectual. As an Austrian that's still leftist I'm immune to that propaganda, believe me😅

It's way calmer and way less addictive. I think the X algo has gotten really good to the point I can be sucked into scrolling for hours at a time. It doesn't make me happy. Bluesky feels like the old Twitter - lots of cool chats with cool people and that's it. I avoid the main timeline though 🤷‍♂️

There does seem to be fewer interesting discussions here, but there is also far less fighting. Although I did recently get into a bit of a tiff here with someone who thinks shooting CEOs is justified... I simply cannot support Musk anymore (used to really like him), so this is my platform.

Every time I go back there, it's always the same few accounts getting all the attention, posting the same trash. The comments are always angry and rage bait-y. I don't need that. The only thing I miss a little is the shitposting. That was funny.

The available data that is open source is a reason to persevere for now. The good thing about slow uptake is that Bluesky will hold off on monetisation through adverts for now. I was thinking Bluesky might be the place for "1000 great followers“. Mastodon is still the best for quality content.

Yeah. I just opened an X account and it is very impressive w/ Grok etc. I never used twitter back in the day but as a standalone app, X as a concept is really very good. If they clean up the content and add the payments as planned, it will be formidable.

If I ever find BSky boring, I'll just leave social networks for good. There's nothing beneficial to gain from Twitter or Meta's platforms anymore.

I cycle between both. But I agree. Bsky feels emptier, and more repetitive. The "Discover" tab seems very random for me, as it has a lot of things that are not necessarily tied to any of my interests. And the character limit is very annoying. X had a good call with increasing it for $$$

If you ask me what I'll see in 5 months on Twitter, I'll ask you what are you building, do you drink coffee as a developer and do you do it on weekends

Yes, but it's inevitable here too, but the question is how much, how pushy people are. (I'm making excuses right now since I myself will advertise my course here :P I promise I'll be humble)

I'm trying to get more into books independent of which platform! Can say for sure that my unverified account there is definitely not getting into interesting convos but hey

This is not my case. I have much more interesting content on Bluesky than on X. The feeds contribute greatly to this, and the feeling of "calm" is rather for me to no longer have aggressive or uninteresting content.

Starter packs are neat, but they don’t really foster communication between users. Not to mention there’s serious issues with the latent “aren’t you glad this isn’t Twitter” attitude

I echo at lot of these comments: * better discussions on X * particularly tech and startup discussions * but Musk is such an annoyance and I don’t want to support him more than I already do (Starlink) * calm is good, in many instances

I think Bluesky is still in its early stages. There’s a long way to go in terms of migration. I believe it’ll happen eventually. I’ve charted a plan to start using Bluesky to document my work and socialise it in other places. Hoping, actual influential people start doing the same
