shoutout to a German court for getting the facts about Bluesky wrong but the interpretation right, in a new ruling that actually has positive implications for open social networks connectedplaces.online/the-algorith...

connectedplaces.onlineThe Algorithm, Apparently ChronologicalA German court has explicitly named Mastodon and Bluesky as positive examples of social networks that could retain hosting protection. It gets Bluesky’s feeds wrong, but its reasoning about user control might be more useful than it realises.

I read the new EU Court ruling on algorithms and social platforms so you don't have to. Turns out to be the most consequential thing a European court has said about recommendation algorithms, and also it just breaks when you apply it to the atmosphere connectedplaces.online/the-algorith...

The latest episode of Power Lines has dropped. This week, we examine Bari Weiss' disastrous quarterly ratings report card, report on how CNN staff hammered Mark Thompson about the incoming Paramount's ownership, and The NYT's battle with Pete Hegseth. Watch on YouTube: youtu.be/0185sL5Dzy0?...

hilarious insight from @developers.google.com #Gemini while working out some awkward #Handlebars kinks for the all-new SEN website built on @ghost.org : > "Frontend magic often feels like trying to argue with a sentient, moody painting that changes its mind depending on who is looking at it."

In an era filled with tech dipshits who never developed emotionally past the age of 13 & use their wealth to become odious monsters ... ... listen to Steve Wozniak.

major milestone achieved today! SEN's first native companion app, the #SENity #editor, now comes with a new #parser (tree-sitter powered) and supports SEN #native links (that never break! fall back to paths if SEN is not running) and file type icons! The outline panel is a first draft, more to come!

working on refactoring the SENity editor with a proper AST based Markdown parser, decided to go with the fast and battle-proven cmark-gfm and finally got a simple test (with some not-so-simple extensions like syntax highlighting support using tree-sitter) working! (with a little help from Claude;-)

``` ~/Develop/SEN/senity> ./test_parser Testing MarkdownParser... ✓ Parse succeeded ✓ Found 4 style runs Run 0: offset=0, length=12, type=1 Run 1: offset=23, length=7, type=10 Run 2: offset=36, length=7, type=9 Run 3: offset=47, length=34, type=8 ... ```
``` ✓ Outline created BMessage(0x0) { children = BMessage(0x0) { text = string("Hello World", 12 bytes) level = int32(0x1 or 1) line = int32(0x1 or 1) offset = int32(0x0 or 0) } } ✓ All tests passed! ```

We should hold trials of the Trump administration figures, the corrupt Supreme Court judges, and probably figures like Leonard Leo, Harlan Crow, Paul Singer, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, as well. The United States is not signatory to the agreements that create the International Court of Justice and the

The volunteering system is diverse and complex. It encompasses volunteers, the organisations they support, and the organisations who work to make volunteering work. Investing in building a data culture, enabling data sharing, and fostering innovation could transform volunteering.

Thinking about moving my #substack to @beehiiv.com after reading yet another well researched shocking article on the lenient handing and even promotion of far right and fascist promotion on the former:

Back in 2023, @katz.theracket.news published a piece in The Atlantic about Substack’s Nazi problem, which led to us launching the Substackers Against Nazis campaign. We both subsequently left the platform, but many insisted the problem wasn’t *that* bad. Katz’s follow-up report finds it def is.
