According to WaPo, retirees receive 6x the federal dollars as young people. The wealthiest generation in history continues to steal from the most anxious/depressed. Our “Democracy” is old people voting themselves more money.

Isnt this likely true in all aging social democracies? “Steal” seems extreme. A rebalance is warranted, but this is a function of aging populations, better medicine helping us live longer, and declining birth rates. Those forces are not easily mitigated by new youth focused social policies.

And in all cases, you’re not contributing to a savings account that is eventually returned to you. You are contributing to the social security of the day. When the balance of workers to retirees skews more towards retirees, the deal stops working. It becomes a ponzi scheme.

You should refuse to take yours then. Your precious Republican conscience should prevent you from enriching yourself with money from a Ponzi Scheme. Become a Walmart greeter, Stevie. Hard work will be good for you.

One small thing I’m grateful for in life is how quickly idiots reveal themselves to be idiots. 1. Not a Republican 2. Already have a job 3. Don’t believe and have not implied that any individual person bears the responsibility for government policy

He also knows that we are subsidizing public colleges well below where we did when our current seniors were in college. That we have higher deficits. That we see less gov investment in our infrastructure than when our seniors were in school. Scott is pointing out that out govt needs to work for all

Do you need it? Because that’s what’s going to be the question for younger generations. There won’t be enough money to pay everyone who paid in. So if you’re a retiree that doesn’t need it to survive, you’re getting a benefit I won’t.

The money you paid in went to old people back then. If your generation had voted to maintain taxes there would be plenty now but you all wanted to “keep your money from the gvmt” by starving younger generations. So here we are.

Posts like this have young people DREAMING of throwing 80 y/o widows into the river, blaming them for everything, when meanwhile guys like Bezos pay zero taxes and have a 100,000 cap on social security contributions ... I'm positively ashamed of Galloway for posting this.

Old middle class people, who worked our whole lives seeing 24% of salaries disappear for state and federal taxes, can’t even afford to retire. We are not stealing as a generation! I am still working at 73 years OLD. My Social Security would not be enough. Consider rethinking your statement?

This is so offensive. We’re giving away billions to other countries, feeding an ever more ravenous military industrial complex for the purpose of war profiteering and cutting services to everyone. Trump is stripping the country and selling it for parts. How convenient to blame older folks.

The more taxes and regulations you introduce, the greater is the divide between the rich and the poor. Living in Europe for so long, you should have known that

So healthcare for all ages is expensive and since older people get social security and medicare, they get most of the money. I’m not stealing anything. I may never have enough money to retire and I’m in my sixties. I’m anxious/depressed also. Great way to rage bait to get attention.

Wrong! I have paid into this system for 50 years! And I had voted in every election since 1978. I resent that you refuse to hold younger people accountable for their own actions and blame my generation for everything

It’s not wrong. Your generation gets these benefits with no means testing. Younger generations (mine) will not get that benefit. We’re paying in to pay your benefits now and there won’t be enough money for everyone when I retire.

you can claim i have it good all day long. I have to pay almost $1000/month for medicare part b. I chose not to have it because it is too damned expensive. YOu may think you are the only ones being squeezed, but you are wrong

and i did the same when i was young and my parents were getting very lucrative payouts for medical, along with ssi and va benefits and when i was 30, i said the same thing you are saying now

For shame! Younger generations benefit also from what seniors receive - money not needed to come out of their own pockets to provide for their parents! A fairer SS contribution schedule (like the wealthy paying the SAME percentage as working people) would guarantee solvency and benefits for all!

Who put in the work and paid into the system that made the promise that one would be taken care of in their latter years. Young people usually have parents to finance their lifestyle and hopefully they the young people have a plan for 5-10 years down the road and for retirement.

Sometimes you get it so wrong. What money are old people voting for themselves? Medicare is income adjusted, the so-called tax free Social Security is a temporary and oversold joke, we are subsidizing our kids and our parents - sheesh.

We WORKED for that money and paid into the “trust fund” from deductions to our paychecks every damn week. It’s not stealing. Our benefits were paid for. If you want to blame someone, try the health care industrial complex. And stop deporting a workforce that pays into our programs without taking out

That’s part of the point. Your generation gets the benefit of getting the money with no qualifications. Younger generations are paying in for you to withdraw and there won’t be enough money for everyone when it’s our turn.

Our “qualifications” are all the dollars we’ve already paid in. This is how they do it. Create scarcity so groups fight each other over the scraps. We are a nation of abundance. Demand that our tax dollars are used for us instead of being squandered on the donor class and there is no problem.

Yes, because deregulation and tax cuts that started in the 1980’s, that you benefited from to make your millions. Not everyone aspired to be millionaires, nor did they have the chance. Don’t lump every older American into your argument, it’s lazy!

You need to provide more context here. Are you saying retiring after working as a federal employee for 30 yrs that my annuity is stealing? We know who's stealing. Billionaires and millionaires with regressive tax rates and who pay into Social Security a much small percentage of their income.

As a retiree I wasn't given an option to pay into social security for 50 years. This current system has been in place for years and we have been told to plan with these benefits. If the cap was lifted these funds would be solvent. The 2 problems out of control medical and millionaire tax breaks.

It's also younger people not voting. Not voting isn't a penalty or enforced constraint (yet); it's a choice. To paraphrase an older idea: every democracy that chooses not to exercise its right to vote has the government it deserves.

My Boomer dad passed from cancer. His medical bills were in the millions. Medicare covered it all. He never payed into the system anything near what he ultimately took out. He was a RW racist who bitched about the government "giving money to illegals" and of course he voted for Trump.

I am 70+ and can assure you that a huge chuck of the senior population, especially single/divorced/never married women, are living on social security alone & struggling mightily. Note that the fastest growing segment of the homeless are 55+.

People seem to be voting for this, or at least not choosing to vote for something else. IMO the bigger problem is that there is no constituency in US politics for responsible budgeting. We all seem to think that our debt can just keep growing.

Sure, dude. Make this about generations rather than the fact that America is afflicted with the greediest, most bloated vampire class in world history. "We gotta push Granny off a cliff! Otherwise, we'll have to raise taxes on the job creators!" whines Scott.

Sets things up for Revolution, when generations of Americans no longer feel as if the American Dream is within reach, but they are funding billionaire yachts & jets…
