When 3M scientist Kris Hansen discovered that a chemical the company produced was in the blood of the general public, her bosses questioned her work. Yet all along, some people inside the company had known the same thing. Listen to this excerpt:

In the meantime #PFAS are in all of us, and in everything we eat or drink. We can´t escape them anymore, and we don´t even know much about their effects on our bodies yet. But I hadn´t known about this study from the 1970s before. 😱😱😱

....and it's been happening all over this country from Love Canal to Flint Michigan. They're still letting us be poisoned. Has this entire country become a "superfund" site now?🤔

Now they find half a plastic spoons weight in Brains! So if our bodies have plastic on a molecular level? It must cause many problems! Maybe a dialysis type clean out? Must be made? We are not getting rid of it so we must treat it?

Corporations will always Lie and attempt to bury all evidence of their harmful actions to avoid all Accountability. Corporations obsess over and worship Money. Corporations are willing to let their products Kill and Maim so long as it leads to more Money.

It's a 1000x worse. Nicotine eventually biodegrades. PFAS and PFOAS do not. Ever. The same with plastics. Sure plastic degrades into micro and nano plastics unseen by the naked eye, but the molecules will be in the environment for millennia and eventually bioaccumulate to the top of the food chain.

Brilliant podcast episode. Made me real glad that early on I made changes to what came in our house, quite by accident. I had an allergic reaction to the 3M sealant put on the sofa in the 80s. The store replaced it with one that they did not have treated.

In the early days of non-stick pans, you could buy a spray to paint it onto your untreated pans. If anyone still lives who tried that (probably without PPE), it would be interesting to see what effects it had.

Imagine how much money, time and effort has gone into making sure the worst polluters on this planet are never ever held personally, criminally accountable and liable for the toxic nightmare they leave to future generations.

They get away with it because Congress has never written laws that require a thorough understanding of the risks presented by the substances that go into products we use. TSCA provides limited opportunities for this, but it’s insufficient.

EPA implements laws written by Congress. Depending on the law at play, what can and cannot be addressed or conditions in which substances can be addressed varies. It sounds like you’re describing spray irrigation, and I assume 3M was disposing of wastewater containing PFAS in this manner.

I knew in 1999. I worked for 3M at the largest chemical factory. They told us ScotchGuard appeared to be ubiquitous. I was a chemical engineer that worked in Cordova, IL. USA for 3 years.

Capitalism at its finest, but we have Kennedy blaming vaccinations and killing children, instead of going after the real reason everyone's health and well being is fucked up.

We were beginning to get regulations on these toxic substances but this administration has been deleting them as the company brings it to his attention. They just changed the elimination of fertilizers with many of these forever chemicals back to the “approved” list. It’s all about the $$$$!!

"Public health advocates at the time said the order appeared to suggest the administration intended to ignore chemical safety review laws." The Devil We Know (2018) An investigative documentary about DuPont and the corporate cover-up of PFOA (C-8) chemical contamination. youtu.be/Zf60iCwPTVo?...

This is Us. This is the story of America: big bucks against the little guy. The wealthy have always worked for unfettered capitalism and corporate impunity. Yesterday it was 3M and DuPont, today it’s Meta, Google, Amazon and their AI data centers.

I propose a "death penalty" for serial criminal companies. Take a controlling interest in the company and put them into a national sovereign wealth fund managed on behalf of the public. Use the proceeds to pay down the cost of other essential services

the poisoning of our rivers lakes communities is STILL being litigated hard by the companies responsible for the natural resource contamination & will go on for many more years...they don't want to be held accountable and the people & environment continue to lose against the $ these polluters have

Nazi Trump, who should be immediately hospitalized in a lunatic ward, doesn’t care about contaminating us all! That’s why he’s killing as many regulations as possible!!

Tobacco companies knew their products were deadly, but lied for decades to protect their precious profits. Pesticide companies Narcotics companies Alcohol companies Coal/mining companies Nuclear/radiation entities, including the US Government All lie. Profit over people. Always.

The spillage of the family of chemicals that bind Teflon to surfaces is specifically the problem, as pointed out in the video and related to the OP. The various food safety and health authorities being wholly owned subsidiaries of the chemical manufacturers is a "root" problem, yes.

I agree with the principle of the root cause of the ogliarchs. I'm simply not clear how an ogliarch crony system under faux socialism is a better resolution than an ogliarch crony system under faux capitalism.

The very worst people on planet earth are at the helm of corporations, financial institutions and governments around the world! Just a comparatively few people are the cause of all the evil on the planet and the masses allow it to continue. I don’t get it

Exactly this. Unfortunately there’s no real remedy but to dismantle capitalism - it always empowers the worst possible people, and weaponizes their worst tendencies - greed, sadism, and e wry depravity. We can’t eliminate greed but we can disempower it by demolishing capitalism.

This is something you might want to research, I read this story over a year ago in I think The New Yorker. It's actually a gut punch and will make you question your faith in corporations and the people that run them. This is a mistake that can't be fixed.

Not for me, corporations are pure evil, straight up. A body, that cannot be killed, simply takes on a new head,a different form, fears no physical punishment? And whose only goal is self benefit? Ford motor co., Exxon, DeBeers, East India co, slave trade, thalidomide, big tobacco, and NewsCorp. 🤨

Since the Rump administration was purchsed by the petrochemical industry prior to the 2024 "election", it is small wonder that Arse Faced Robby Roadkill would be constantly grabbing attention away from serious issues related to the death and disease caused by their products.

capitalism is a system built on greedy and an absolute lack of concern for humankind; socialism is a system that grows from love and compassion, complete empathy for human wellbeing;

Had to investigate... PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances): large group of thousands of man-made "forever chemicals" Uses: non-stick pans, food wrappers, stain-resistant rugs, waterproof clothes PFOS: one specific chemical inside the PFAS group. This EPA Info appears untampered with by the regime⤵️

epa.govOur Current Understanding of the Human Health and Environmental Risks of PFAS | US EPALearn about EPA's current understanding of the health risks of PFAS.

IMO,lots! The maladies that seem inexplicable, aren't easily diagnosed, can't be successfully "treated" or "cured".Too many to count, really."Sick house syndrome";FND;CFS;& many more neurological glitches that are impossible to find a "reason" for, never mind a cure.Tobacco Co's knew,Chem Co's know too!

Sure be nice if the Make America "Healthy" Again crowd pointed their ire at things like this, instead of vaccines which have nothing to do with autism (or other issues) and are instead tremendous tools for public health.

That'd be way too much for their tiny brains to deal with! They don't know enough about basic(really BASIC)science to understand vaccines,& how & why they work,so what hope for a fight against Chem/Pharma companies & forever chemicals? That concept is too much for MAGA to cope with! They are too dumb!

PLASTICS AND PETROCHEMICALS IN GENERAL! "Don't worry those plastics are 'food safe'. Oh wait, actually they aren't. And we knew about it. For decades". Most of the taps in Maine are contaminated with forever chemicals? How? The ingestion of nonstick coatings from pans & human waste as fertilizer.

a lot of them. most basic, cancer isnt just some mysterious random chance of nature for most ppl, its the result of things that end up in our bodies that we dont know about or didnt know we were consuming

Awful, but not surprising. My county history museum had an exhibit last year about a local asbestos company that refused to protect workers adequately, and then found ways *for decades* to get workers with cancer to settle quietly instead of sue. Capitalism kills on large and small scales.

You could also do this with lead, PCBs, TCE, PCE, DDT. At some point, you realize Congress not using its power to require more of industry vis-à-vis assessing the human health and environmental risk of the products they manufacture BEFORE they’re released to the public is the root of the problem.

After catastrophes like the Love Canal contamination became public, more regulations were ennacted . These helped. The EPA did enact a lot of regulations that helped , but they burdened chemical manufacturers, and the damned corporations have worked dilligently to bypass them ever since.

Regulation implements law, Steve. There was no federal law to address abandoned hazardous waste sites like Love Canal and Valley of the Drums before Congress passed CERCLA (a.k.a. Superfund). Section 105 of CERCLA directed EPA to draft regulations (the National Contingency Plan).

The products they may have used to extinguish fires, not their PPE, is the main concern. Exposure to AFFF almost certainly presented several orders of magnitude more risk than does whatever is in all of our domestic products. Ingestion is the primary exposure pathway for PFAS.

Sure that too, but when bldgs/homes & all our 'stuff' burns, there are literally thousands of uber toxic chemicals released. My lil bro is Denver Fire & it wasn't until just a few yrs ago DFD FINALLY instituted multiple sets of turnout gear for FF & properly de-con turnout gear after fighting a🔥!

Trust me we are all screwed, they've found PFAS in the blood of almost 100% of those they've tested, and arterial plaque increasing chances of atherosclerosis. My hubby's been out since about 2010. 9/11 changed his career after he started having issues. Thank your brother. 🙂

Exposure has many components: toxicity, persistence, pathway, bio accumulation, etc. The resistance of PFAS to degradation is a benefit in this example. Unless they’re biting off pieces of that gear I doubt that the risk is unacceptable. Far, far and away, the greatest risk to firefighters is AFFF.

Of course the bosses didn't want to know if what they were selling was toxic & dangerous -- THERE WAS MONEY TO BE MADE!!! That's all these Capitalists ever care about. They don't care if their products literally KILL planet earth. They don't care if it KILLS many people, either.

The ice cores in Geenland show the trace lead pollution of the commercial smelting done by the Roman empire. Shit lasts and wealth protects itself. Our egregious 19th century was the era of my grandfather. Drumph's, too. The past is closer than we think and forgotten quicker than we believe.

The ancient greeks wrote of their serious concerns over deforestation, even then they were fully aware of the impact of erosion and desertification, if perhaps not some of the larger scale impacts. People, the all consuming death virus monkey.

Not the first time. Remember leaded gasoline? We're still clawing our way out of that. Among the anti-knock agents they tested? Drinking alcohol. They went with Tetraethyl Lead, not because it was the only solution, but because it was the only one they could *patent*.

Give the #TrumpRegime a chance and they will push for MORE deadly chemicals in our water and food supply....so long as there's a nice bag of cash in it for them.

Honestly these people are criminals they've killed thousands maybe millions of people and no one will ever be held accountable. I fucking hate capitalism thank God it's burning 🔥 itself out.

Europe prosecutes corporate executives who commit these crimes against humanity. And that is what covering up the effects of dangerous chemical is--a crime against humanity.

Women know all the secrets men have been hiding. Time to come out of the closet and show yourselves, be brave, be a man, if you can muster up the courage w/ out testosterone enhancement therapy. Bwahahahahahahahaha

Because they set up factories next to poor & poor blk neighborhoods & most Americans could care less about what happens to any poor & poor blk Americans. Example: 2 teens shot a homeless man a few yrs ago in my town. Later, some other guys stolen a homeless vets wheelchair & threw 💩 on him.

All these companies play how far, and for how long...then cut and run when they get caught. It is beyond bullshit that laws aren't requiring them to put up a performance bond, site restoration bond, liability bond and a speculation bond if their business fails, safety deposit. Owners stay liable.

This is the same as the tobacco companies, the asbestos industry, the pharmaceutical industry, oil and gas etc. They made their fortunes harming ppl and COVERED IT UP TO CONTINUE TO MAKE $$$ - we are NOTHING to them just a wallet to continue sucking our $$, health and lives from. Greedy corporations

People responsible should be in prison, and the company should be disassembled with any usable resources auctioned off, any cash on hand seized. They are as bad or worse than the tobacco lobby and the oil industry.
