I don’t have to trust him. But if he is one of just a handful of elected Dems grabbing the obvious and low hanging fruit in the face of fascism, I have to encourage him to continue. I sincerely hope every single elected Dem faces a primary challenge. Even the “good” few need to prove their worth.

I am all for him going after Trump all he wants. But people need to understand, this isn't a "stand behind our man" situation. This is a "let them fight" situation.

Coalition to counter Trumpism is fine. But Summer/Fall 2024 alone should be enough to remind us NOT to anoint a de facto nominee this far ahead of time. And when we do, Newsom is already too nice to folks who don’t want everyone to exist or to have human rights.

Why isn’t he to be trusted? All I need him to do is win, and who else is better situated to do so? He’s tall, he’s male, he’s handsome, he can turn a phrase, and his name ID is growing quickly. We cannot afford to denigrate our own when the stakes are this high.

I’m fascinated at how reactive dems get over a Newsom presidency at this point in time. One has to separate the importance of the redistricting fight right now from what may or may not happen in the 2028 primary race.

I kinda thought Ryan was The Smiler back in 2012, but that couldn’t be right because Romney seemed like The Beast and it didn’t make sense to have them on the same ticket. But yeah, I think Newsom fits the profile more.
