reading between the lines, what they're pretty clearly asking for is a profit guarantee from the US taxpayer (at like 40 bucks a barrel) and I'd bet they get it too

yeah I think the two further questoins are -how large does the guarantee need to be to account for the likelihood it gets rescinded? -related, how is the guarantee given, where is the money coming from and who's faith and credit is backing it? (this is why I would bet they don't get it fwiw)

Reminds me of the last 10 minutes of “The Big Short” and the warning it presented. Big money is really only interested in fulfilling their own interest.

deposing a foreign ruler and spending tens of billions of dollars on oil subsidies so we can put American frackers out of business, just in time for EVs to permanently collapse oil demand. that's the Trump business touch alright

let's fix this in 2026. we're reading full sentences again. we're thinking for four (4) whole seconds before flying off the handle. we're bringing back the use mention distinction, we're bringing it back very strongly

It was a bunch of people who are familiar with a caricature of an American imperialist, but have never met a real one, so they mistook an American doing an explainer for an American endorsing imperialism.

I mean this is kind of reasonable if they are basically being asked to be USG contractor. And I would say that the right policy for O and G is to have a floor and ceiling system that's run via a government purchase and sale program aka what Biden did.

oh sure that's exactly what I would ask for too, in their shoes, and I agree with the price stabilization thing, it's just an insane source of product. and I doubt that Trump is going to do what Biden did

Even then there still exists the issue: of "are we wanted there?" Sounds like the sane and primary question Trump et al would never ask....

I still haven't let go of what he said about controlling the profits for oil sales personally. I think this is about getting a source of money that the treasury can't control.
