When the Paris Accords were being negotiated, some people were saying they were absolutely useless because China was such a big polluter and would cancel out any improvements the US could make. China has now gone all-in with renewables, while we are under a regime that wants more dirty energy.

Gorgeous photos. There's a fishscale beauty to solar and I understand it's ascendance over wind but as someone fond of megastructures I can't deny the appeal of a bunch of huge ass turbines. The element of motion wind adds is also interesting

Used to go to Beijing for work a bit. Last time was over 10 years ago. I always thought I was coming down with a cold the first couple of days there, then realized it was the smog. I assume it's much better now?

I’m in Beijing about half a dozen times a year. The great majority of the time, the air is perfectly clear. It’s been smoggy a few times, but I have seen as bad in the US. The air quality improvement in China in the last eight years has been really something.

Don't think they are that big, but there are some pretty big ones on the other side of the Colorado off of I-10 on the way to LA. You probably know this, but they are pretty cool to see.

I wonder what Republicans think when they see the enormous investment China is making in renewable energy. The country’s leaders are crunchy granola tree huggers? Or are they smart business people positioning their country for the future?

Republicans are led by a senile moron who thinks wind farms are ugly and is ready to pay energy companies billions of $ for not building them. They’re clearly tired of winning.

the guy's portfolio has other good pics (lot of normal nature and architecture stuff but also some other infrastructure and renewable energy stuff) that may be of interest to people who liked that thomaskksj.tuchong.com/posts/ (website's a little slow, different continent i guess)

This is stunning to see. In my lifetime, we saw a renaissance of renewable energy. It started with inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs struggling to be a cottage industry. We kept at it, passed good RD&D policies w/other countries to bring down costs and it's ready when we are.
