I think Covid inspires such rage and frantic dissembling because it was a moment when denying social solidarity and the importance of quality government could literally kill you. a lot of conservatives did just that

another thing about this pitiful fucking pissbaby whining from conservatives is that Covid was a real straightforward and not particularly deadly pandemic. it could have been SO MUCH WORSE bsky.app/profile/schw...

This is true if by "they" you mean quadrillions of SARS-CoV-2 viruses. I'm still mad at them

Yeah, if the young were as vulnerable as the old (like with flu)...horrific. My wife and I talked about this and realized one of us may have had to quit our job to stay home and keep our newborn from dying.

"wahhhhh I couldn't go to restaurants and there were not-at-all-enforced orders to stay at home for a few months" ok but this could have ended up with your plague-ridden corpse shoveled into a mass grave and burned alongside 50,000 others

indeed, I think that's what they thought would happen when NYC got hit the hardest. but it turned out that way more Republicans died after the Covid vax came out and tons of them refused to get it

It was the perfect level of "this is deadly, but probably in a way that's not visible to a lot of people." Most of these solipsistic idiots never suffered the impact in a direct enough way to be appropriately chastened by it, so they just fixate on their personal inconveniences.

The biggest real impact of our policies was probably on kids not being in school, but it was necessary to limit the spread. Of course kids needing drills on surviving school shootings is much more damaging to their emotional well-being, and we don't do anything to limit the need for that.

I've worked from home since 2013 as has my wife so the biggest change was just having the kids around more and it wasn't particularly traumatic for me. I cannot fucking imagine basing a personality and a fascist ideology around it fucking six years later!

we really are in the Weak Men Create Hard Times era. spoiled, petulant little shitheads who've never put in a real day of work in their lives, squalling like babies over getting a shot, while they try to murder all of Africa

It’s Y2K all over again—because we made a concerted effort to avoid the worst possible consequences, you get folks who looking back go “it was no big deal, we freaked out over nothing”

I have pictures of packed mall and restaurant parking lots here from July 2020. PA went into reopening mode in all counties by then. These people have rewritten history they lived through so they could pretend they were locked inside for years. Absolutely wild

I could have done with some of that old time stealing. As I was in a key industry, I worked right through it. I’d much rather sitting around on my arse playing Fallout 4, or reading a book.

To be fair to guys like this, if you accept the premise that a spike in death rates two or three times greater than the one we saw would have led to social collapse and widespread chaos that the security state could not have contained, it does pretty much put a pin in their whole project.
