not sure what DSA should do about this, I don't follow national drama that closely, but for the record "Marxism-Leninism" is a bunch of horseshit reverse-engineered by Stalin to justify his reskinned Russian Empire. about as relevant to the modern US as the Council of Nicaea

Yes. Russia has always been a brutal colonial empire, even when it wore different clothes during the Soviet era. The wealth of the provinces has always been routed through the imperial capitals of Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the provinces kept in thrall through propaganda and violence.

Back when I listened to Chapo Trap House (🤮), I remembered one of them said the fall of the Soviet Union was one of the biggest tragedies of the 20th century. A lot of these DSA types actually believe that!

imagine saying this about Israel lol. “just send more diplomats to talk Netanyahu around” bsky.app/profile/rpsa...

Remnick: So we shouldn't send weapons to Ukraine? DSA co-chair Megan Romer: No! Remnick: So, just allow Russia to overrun Ukraine entirely? Romer: We should be sending huge teams of diplomats. We should figure out how to negotiate.w

though I will say Romer is very isolated on Ukraine among US socialists by this point (Hasan has come around eg) while that is not AT ALL true of mainstream liberals and Israel

I think it's also very important to remember how small a percentage of left of center voters believe some of the crazier things like "Ukraine needs more diplomats" or "abolish the police". In comparison to a majority on the right believing completely ridiculous things like "global warming is fake".

Has Hasan? He's dialed it back since first dismissing the imminent Russian aggression as bloodthirsty Western propaganda, but he's still among those arguing Ukraine must "give peace a try" (cede territory and sovereignty to the invader) www.reddit.com/r/Destiny/s/...

I don’t think she is tbh. Like the DSA IC is still comprised of utter loons, and I have a strong suspicion she gave this terrible take not because she actually believes it, but to avoid alienating the “Putin’s Russia is anti-imperialist in effect” loons

That's what I'm saying! You literally cannot achieve anything internationally with hostile actors if this is the position you adopt! It's childlike! "Oh, they'll just see why we're right and stop using violence!" You are a toddler. You have the mind of a toddler.

Josh is right that the silly Romeo does seem to be the go to nut for people wanting to attack the general movement. And she is not helpful.

Well I don’t think it’s relevant to the contemporary US, but I do think the degree to which Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, have meaningful differences is pretty overstated. The empire stuff externally, sure, but Stalin really carried out the internal revolution the others dreamed up, for good or mostly ill

I would disagree about Lenin, I don't think he would have done the Great Purge had he lived. but regardless we're talking about a penniless agricultural backwater, not the center of global capitalism

No way to know for sure of course. But the activities of the Cheka and other atrocities approved by Lenin (also approved by Leon T) make me included to press X to doubt. And yes, who cares what some internet tankie jokers say today, beyond it embarrassing attempts at seriousness by DSA.

DSA had a perfectly good mechanism to deal with this in the constitution - for reason unknown to me the segment allowing for expulsion of centralist tendencies was removed. Probably because a bunch of centralists joined
