Okay, so I know I'm followed by a handful of serious writers, and @faineg.bsky.social by even more. I need one of you to explain the AI rationalist sex cult in a publication I can share to LinkedIn and have folks take seriously.

I've tried to explain the barest minimums to my friends and family and the only person to believe me until the dam of chaos overtops into consequences is my wife. These are mostly well educated nerds with decades understanding politics, internet culture, or both. Lay folks aren't ready.

you'd want to write up the more sex pest coded side of the rat sex cult thing, I think. I live in the bay and I've heard some backchannel shit about leading rationalists via various people I trust at various times, and I'd bet there are plenty of stories out there, for the right journalist.

Trans bluesky is going to roast me for this, but I do still regularly talk with people at WaPo and NYT who cover tech culture for those publications, and if this isn't a "tech culture" issue, what is?

it turns out that sometimes if you tell people at the Evil Outlet things that help your cause, you get results that are better than just telling everyone they should ignore it and burn the heretics at the stake

Jacob Coxon's 10% P(DOOM) thing + the Pacing the Frontier post are all over my LinkedIn and in serious work conversations. I think we need to stop any attempt at regulatory capture now by creating a backlash before politicos get in bed with these folks or we won't get another chance.

...there's Amanda Silberling's "What does a Harry Potter fanfic have to do with OpenAI?" Eric Posner's "Should Charity be Legal?" Leif Weinar's "The Deaths of Effective Altruism." J. Oliver Conroy's Guardian piece on Ziz LaSota. Some are more professional than others, but they help?

No problem. I also have this Google doc of sources. Mostly anti-This-Shit, but there's a few pro- articles near the end just to provide context. Fair warning; Some of the articles may misgender some of the subjects, and it appears to be by accident. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

There's probably a way to describe, basically, "Bohemian Grove meets Burning Man with influences of transhumanism on the side" in a serious way, but for it to be taken seriously is the difficulty.

I'm not sure I'm the right person either, but this is good to know, and i know some folks and if I may pass the offer along, I will!

it's also worth mentioning, btw, the actual death toll of the cult, including the sub-cult which was the Cult of Ziz which led to the death of my former Google organising colleague Emma Borhanian in the course of the murders they committed.

I just learned about the Zizians from this post and it is a really good thing transphobes are dumb because between this wiki article and how 80% of trans women on here post I could create a trans panic in America that would have JK Rowling personally thanking me for my contribution to our deaths.

Okay so the fact that people automatically assume that this is about Ziz alone are illustrating the problem. It's easy to make this about the one trans woman who went off the deep end, but she basically went off the deep end due to her involvement with the Rats.

Yeah, I can't emphasize enough that this is the sort of thing that needs to be short, written (as opposed to a podcast), and something I can share with my professional network, leadership at a university medical school, and my parents.

Ok this is kind of tangential and isn’t everything one would need to know but it is an article in a normie pub and it does provide some key info about EA and related communities, and I feel like a lot of people missed it. www.wired.com/story/deliri...
