Nope, new world/universe completely. It's Europe/North Africa in the middle ages, but different religions/citys have the power and a lot else is different too. (I mean, vampires and a female 12 year old pope, right?) If you're an Abercrombie fan I'd be surprised if you didn't dig it. I loved it!

On page 310 so far and loving it. My wife and I are reading together, her on audio and me with the hardcover, and it's fun to confer after getting through parts. Abercrombie delivers.

Scott, this author's catalog is just absolutely cinematic. He's a master of mashing genres. If you haven't, check out his First Law stuff. If you have, I'll shut up!

Best Served Cold and Red Country played like a movie in my head when I read them. Just great stuff! I haven't picked up his new one yet, but I think I will now!

Is it just me or is The Devils somehow just slightly different? It's not just that it's in a different world, the tone and language are just slightly different. Love it just as much - just trying to get my finger on how it's different

Evangelical World keeps repeating Satanic Panic, with minor variations, over and over and over again. Pizzagate, Qanon, Trumpism have led in a straight line to the current mass hysteria moment, walking the same well-trodden paths from fifty years ago.

Since Constantine had so much to do with the success of Christianity, it is hard for me to to not include it in the discussion. There were popular pagan religions like Mithraism that were as popular at the time.Christians violently pushed them out with Constantine's approval. It was political for him.

Mithraism: men only. Plus required expensive sacrifices so for rich or those with rich patrons. Judaism: adult circumcision of male converts. And so on. Anyone could become Christian. That gave Christianity a power base, which is why Constantine decided to use it rather than fight it .

Greed ruins everything, even religions who are against it. Also I make music about anything, the last thing I made was a song about Hans Niemann (the cheating chess player). So if there is anything you'd like me to make a song, just reply and I might do it if I think it's a cool idea.

Here's my understanding: They have to be taught and brought to be done with sin (which means remade in accordance with the righteousness of the Lord) before being welcomed into heaven proper. But this makes it into a religion that men can't manipulate.
