Jenrick has set out how Reform would maximise our “Brexit freedoms”. And this is their list. This is the very best they can come up with. “Re-legalise imperial units” It’s truly pathetic that this is the pinnacle of their Brexit fever dream. And that anyone would still back this ruinous idiocy…

We started metrication in 1965. How old are the people this policy is supposed to be appealing to?

I’m 83 and it does nothing for me. My view is that it is a requirement for Reform membership that their IQ is between at least 75 and 90. (When you know, you know!)

Yes, we started it in 1965, but many people still talk about feet and yards (I admit I do too sometimes), weight-loss TV programmes still use stones (I can't relate to that at all), we buy petrol in litres but still talk about miles per gallon. I really wish we would finally put it all to bed.

I grew up with rods, chains, tanners and even florins. I'm quite happy with what we've now got, thanks. We'll eventually stop driving miles; drinking pints; auctioning bloodstock in guineas but, meanwhile, it's all nostalgic nonsense meant to appeal to all the Spitfire pilots born since 1960.

I learned imperial in the early 60s. It was a pain in the arse remembering all the different measures/units. I was so relieved when decimalisation/metrication happened. In my later school life everything became easier. Who the hell would want to go back? 🙄

There are lots of us in construction using a mixture of both since we all have dual metric/imperial tape measures, and we use whichever works best at the time.

Hang on a minute young lady I may be in my mid 80s but I ain’t quite pushing up the daisies… Going back to imperial measurements, weights, money etc would not only stupefy the Gen Z lot but also the Reform Klingons…

Australia switched to metric across a staged timeline from 1970 to 1988. Nobody here still thinks about the imperial system. It isn't something on anyone's radar. The only time you see it is in clothes waist sizes at some stores and TV screen sizes.
