Lets not forget Unix was invented by the phone company when your phone needed to be plugged in to the wall - "Initially intended for use inside the Bell System, AT&T licensed Unix to outside parties in the late 1970s, leading to a variety of both academic and commercial Unix variants from vendors"

As a recent Apple convert, I’m inclined to agree. It’s probably the best OS I’ve used in years, but I mostly mean that as an insult to everything else I’ve tried since Windows 7. I can’t really agree with the other Mac users that it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

I don’t know an Apple user who waxes lovingly about the OS. We don’t even want to imagine an OS exists unless it’s time for an update. Not saying you can’t refer to us as a cult…but it ain’t about our affection for the OS. If there IS an OS cult, we all know who that is.

Actually Linux is just about there now... I am considering it for the first time in a very long time after trying many distros over the years for desktop replacement where I needed to concentrate on designs rather than learn command line interfacing. 👉Zorin👀. Isn't Mac OS built on Linux/ Unix clone?

I had a job once where we took a Sun server running Solaris, opened a virtual system, loaded windoze. Virtual system, loaded Linux. Virtual system, reloaded a different version of windoze. Reloaded a new form of Linux, after doing this 9 times, we reloaded Windoze so we could play Armageddon.

I don't know why I keep seeing that Linux desktop sucks. I'm on Manjaro KDE Plasma and it is 100 percent customizable, fast, clean, and free. More important for me, it doesn't come from either Microsoft or Apple, and I'll never need to waste system resources on telemetry or hidden security risks.

Supercomputers are presumably an enormously expensive investment. Who in their right mind would entrust something like that to Microsoft® Losedows™? ;-)

Linux will remain on servers/supercomputers. It will never become a viable alternative to Windows or macOS for personal computers. Despite the Linux faithful declaring “this will be the year of Linux on the desktop” for the past 20 years.

Eh. I might have agreed with this take in 2019 but the last five years have really changed things. Given I'm doing this post on a Debian phone I think it might be closer to prime time than you think.

Considering Windows bloat and inefficiency, and iOS dropping the ball repeatedly with security and meaningless GUI changes while both bend over backwards for a fascist administration to sell your data....Linux is probably the only way to keep your digital environment yours and yours alone.

I have been using Kubuntu LTS Desktop for 15 years on my PC and Ubuntu LTS on my servers for 20 years. Works fine. Unless you are stuck with using Windows only software (for some reason) then that is just an old cliche response.

Funny how Linux users come out of the woodwork if you make a simple statement of fact they don’t like. It’s not ready for prime time. Regular people don’t want hassles of wondering if their software/drivers will work properly or even if it’s available. Linux doesn’t “just work”. It takes effort.

What was the point in writing all of that? You didn't say anything different than what was already there. Summarize maybe, rewriting what is already there. this is very annoying. I'm not singing you out you're the third person today. 🙃✌️
