Jan 6th illustrated the threat to US democracy. Whilst handcuffing a senator is perhaps 'symbolic' but it isn't a new threat to democracy. The threat was Trump on Jan 6th and the US not only didn't prosecute him but elected him as president with a mandate to do what he is now doing.
