I'm not gonna lie, I totally forgot that Bluesky got a new CEO 😭

DEATH tapped the screen "Blue sky attracts me precisely because it's not just doom scrolling, it's engaging, fun, it's a safe place" WAR smiled "Bit of a bubble then?" PESTILENCE coughed "Well I enjoy it here, salad anyone?" FAMINE nibbled a taco "It's a nice place to wait for Har Megiddo, quieter"

I've watched the interview with @toni.bsky.team ... Really enjoyed it. Decades of closed social networks makes it so darn hard to explain the AT Protocol. Questions about whether BlueSky should look like TikTok fail to understand interoperability in the feed. We'll get there! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

plz, my people are dying

this is what you sound like when you call it BlueSky

DAMN is @reckless.bsky.social an anazing interviewer! Lots of interesting insights in there, but I feel the interview ended on a downer once it became clear that Bsky truly doesn’t want to be what its users think it is. I get why (on a business level), but it will be a rough transition for sure

Also, just wished for more questions on a non-American perspective in the company. For now, it feels that the whole team, protocol and network operate on a USian standards and world views, but I wonder how much they can can still neglect the rest of the world but achieve significant growth.

the monetization answer made zero sense. how do you take a cut of transactions that happen off-platform without charging for impressions on-platform?

If Bluesky starts amplifying right wing content and using Algos to promote it I move onto the fence on staying with Blusky. If right wing content becomes ubiquitous I'm leaving Right wing content is livable. Amplifying it, prioritizing its spread, allowing misinformation & lies to run wild is not

A takeaway for me to this convo is that Bluesky doesn't amplify anything. Ppl can choose what they want, that's the beauty of it all, and why, beyond ideological reasons, sane ppl have been migrating off of X. Open source, personalized moderation, non-algorithmic. Hooray.

I hope it stays that way but the drive to increase membership is strong. More eyeballs means, at some point, more money to be made. That pull is hard to resist. Juicing some segments of the population to engage more by making the social ground appealing to them unquestioningly brings in the people

For sure. Seems to me, tho, that the team is seasoned & smart and have the advantage of learning from past failures. By building a strong basis under the radar and expanding now, as AI gains momentum & the older platforms succumb to fascism, they're poised to help amplify a new social media paradigm
