I use arch btw (on my laptop) still have myself stuck on windows on my pc for a few reasons: vr is a pain and doesn't run as well on linux, openrgb doesn't like my ram or aio, and it's good to be comfortable and familiar using the os that most of the professional world runs on (not counting servers)

Linux Mint? I don't have enough experience with different distros to say exactly, but I've installed Mint with the xfce desktop on a laptop before. It looks basically like windows, but you have to use Linux apps. Which you find on the distro's software manager, not downloaded from the internet.

i really do believe u should switch over from windows though. why use an OS that preys on the fact that they know u won't switch so they can do whatever the fuck they want? who asked for an AI chatbot on their OS? i for one did not and i'm sure ur as tired as i was with having to turn "features" off

Cuz to learn linux you have to interact with linux users and linux users almost universally have no idea how hard it is for a normie to learn to do the most basic things on Linux. Working in CLI is hard. Working in CLI in a completely different context while people on discord yell at you for not

there is no excuse anymore. "my games won't work!!" i can go onto steam and install any game and expect it to run the same, if not better, than my previous windows install did. game compatibility is a relic of the past and it's something u won't even have to think about anymore

The problem is games that have anticheat at kernell. If that shit worked on linux i would have alrready switched. Hell, im provably switching once valve releases the gabecube and the tools to make playing on linux easier

switching to linux gave me an excuse to finally quit league of legends for good. the kernel level anti-cheat is definitely annoying though grrr

Unfortunately not the case for me as someone with high end hardware which ultimately means I'm locked on Nvidia as much as that sucks so much, AMD or Intel don't provide a GPU that I like and can drive my GX9 monitor, get I'm apart of a class that's literally unobtainable for more people rn though

Nvidia support on Linux is so fucking bad plus a lot of third party tools I like aren't supported on there and what alternatives exist just don't exist, Linux works for low end indie games nowadays flawlessly sure but a lot of older titles and recent AAA and AA just still not there

Only reason I don't switch is Nucleus Co-Op, I mostly play games split screen with my roomies and being able to turn online/LAN games into split screen has massively expanded my options. Linux has Party Deck, which is aiming for the same functionality but isn't anywhere close yet.

she swapped over to linux full time and this was the FIRST thing she setup,,,, i love perverted linux users πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

I’m going on nearly 20 years and it’s gotten so much easier. I kinda miss those days lost to reworking all my config files after a major update. That said, any time I open up a Windows computer nowadays I just wanna scream.

there's definitely a lot of fun in it for me in configuring everything but that's just bc i'm a little weirdo that likes to read ><

I did so long ago after Win made it more and more difficult for me do make decision about my own desktop, my GF switched last year, she happy :)

Yeah only issie with that old laptop is i really wanna get the fan fixed but i dont have the tools for it luckily my bff should have me covered whenever we can make the time for it. Ideally id want to upgrade the ram to but lets be real even for old shit its over priced now

its ok bc it was scary for me and my dumb puppy brain when i made the jump but really, it holds ur paw so much now !! there's even some linux distros like Bazzite that will just make everything work without u thinking about it.

hope you don't mind me jumping in. you can run Linux on hardware you use right now off a USB stick. no installation, no commitment until you want to commit an internal HDD with USB3.2 games won't even suffer from bandwidth unless they need something super fast to me linux is fun, hope you enjoy
