As plant-based alternatives increasingly outperform animal products in all relevant domains, the question for food companies is no longer whether they can sell them. It is whether continuing to produce animal products still makes sense when superior alternatives exist — and will only get better.

Kind of sad to see that the people whose personality consists of being shitty to vegetarians have migrated to Bluesky. I see meat posts. I just skip them. Some folks can't do that with veggie posts. They need to come tell us how much they like bacon. Bitchin.

It’s irrelevant when you need a protein source and a food source that you can eat with the least amount of distress. I cannot eat green vegetables. Or any fruit or vegetable with a skin or fruits with too much flesh like oranges or pineapples or seeds or nuts or any type of whole grains or even eggs

Great. So what's the plan for ramping up production to meet the equivalent of demand for meat? From a quick Google, it would be something like 200 pounds of "meat" per person per year in the US.

Producing plant-based alternatives takes a tiny fraction of the land, water, and energy that it takes to make animal products – and causes far less deforestation, emissions, anti-biotic resistance, etc. Building these new infrastructures won‘t cost us – it will save us: money, effort, and misery.

I've seen people spouting the "good for the environment" statistics for years, but I haven't seen anybody present a practical plan for getting from here to there. Just wondering if you have.

Do your own research. It’s not that hard. Bottom line: it‘s international scientific consensus that plant-based food production is VASTLY more sustainable and efficient than animal agriculture.

If you're genuinely interested you can find this information on the internet. These things don't happen overnight so gradual movement will happen.

The vast majority of crops are used to feed animals in mass meat production. Animals are pumped full of antibiotics, growth hormones etc. which is bad enough aside from them being tortured and killed in gas chambers just because you're too ignorant to choose the plant based option.

Vegan 'cheese' is shite. When you can produce something to compare with gorgonzola...oh, but that contains living organisms, ie: mould. And there is no substitute for fresh fish or clams, or crab... Enjoy your diarrhoea-inducing lettuce.

Going to assume you’ve never eaten any serious vegan cuisine, otherwise you’d have done a 5 sec search to realize that’s untrue. Just because something is not a fit for you doesn’t mean you need to demonize it for anyone else.

1: Is there 'serious' vegan cuisine? 2: Humans are naturally omnivorous. 3: There's nothing worse than people who preach. I enjoy vegetarian food frequently, and I'm not a big fan of red meat. I just don't see the point of vegan hamburgers. The meat ones are crap too 😂

Apart from the fact they don't give us iron or alot of enzymes we need. I do like vegan food and have a vegan son but he ended up with the lowest ferritin his doctor had ever seen and has to be on iron supplements for life. There's just no way to get enough iron through plants. They should add iron.

I’m sorry to hear about the issue with your son. It’s important to know that there are simple tricks to maximize iron absorption on a vegan diet. Overall, balanced vegan diets yield significantly better health outcomes than omnivorous diets.

We have excellent meatless options here in FR. Patties, hot dogs, even ground meatless for tacos. All fantastic. I never used meat substitutes, prefering to just cook meals that are fine without meat. However, eating my first meatless hotdog & hamburger was pretty awesome.

That's so cool. You saw a post from a vegan group targeted towards vegans and you came here to tell them that you prefer meat. Fucking wicked. Epic. Keep going, champ.

You are defending the world’s single largest system of organized violence. There is not the slightest need for animal exploitation in modern societies. And many people doing the wrong thing doesn’t make it right.
