Not advice but a warning: In your 30s, your perception of time will speed up exponentially (unless you are miserable). Whole days feel like maybe 4 hours long. I've lived in Finland for a whole year and it feels like maybe 6 months. I'm HURTLING towards oblivion, somebody pump the brakes PLEASE lol

It is not just you. Part of my actually having a midlife crisis was it felt like I turned 30, blinked, and then I was 40. Right now I have some shit I really need to deal with and am already freaking out a bit because I've barely been able to do a thing and the month is almost half over

And yeah part of the problem is before I can even start my day, it's already over. Entire months can be lost to this, especially if I nap, which as you grow older becomes more and more pleasurable but also loses you even more time

I've gotten the impression that time slows down to a crawl in a new country because everything is a learning process again ever since you were a child. That is of course until you've learned most of it, until it doesn't feel as unique anymore.

I've heard it's because we experience fewer new things the older we get. I try to make a point to do more new things (or just things in general, like going out and meeting friends). It's a delicate balance bc I also don't want to overload myself, but I think it does help slow down time for me.

It’s a studied thing and it boils down to something like the longer you’ve been alone, the shorter each moment is compared to the total time you’ve experienced so each of those moments *is* shorter to you

My thirties had this a little bit, but then my wife got a 9-5 job, replacing her 3 nurse shifts of 12 hours. We've now inadvertently started embracing the TGIF mindset, and the weeks melt away! It's jarring sometimes

Yeah, my biggest "accelerated time" moment for me came in my mid 20s when I got my first real career job, which was 8-5. The weeks just washed away as the only real, fun and interesting things I was doing were on the weekends. I started going to a weekly trivia night mid-week which actually helped!

My reasoning for this is that discrete periods of time end up being a smaller overall portion of the time you've been alive. When you're 10 years old, a year is 10% of your life, but that goes down to 3.33% by the time you're 30.
