The only feature I want to see adopted by browsers is knowing when to stop adding shit to the Web Platform, because browsers are already more complex than most operating systems. The Web is so far past feature creep at this point, it sits firmly in "Winchester House Expansion" territory.

CSS being pulled inside out and stretched into the visage of a programming language because devs have no control over their markup structure, apparently, and thus need container-queries and anchor positioning and whatever the hell a @position-try is supposed to be.

Hah I just did this with container queries, so I'm glad they're a thing bsky.app/profile/jake...

Playing around with an idea: responsive code. The build script creates up to 5 versions of each code sample using Prettier, and a container query displays the right one. Brotli means the filesize overhead is very small. Live demo: jakearchibald.com/2026/css-cus...

The one thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere (maybe it has already been discussed på working groups IDK): the ability to swipe with a mouse. Feature parity with touch interaction (inertia, overflow scrolling, etc). But submitting anything seems like it requires a PHD 😕

There are tests for things like websockets, so I don't see why there can't be more protocol stuff there. However, even if not, it can be proposed as an "investigation area", which aims to make something more testable.
